I always felt that we were overlooked in this aspect
I disagree with his statement being that there were ATL artist like Kilo ali who mixed social commentary with party music.

Breh who really knows where rapping started?Hip Hop consist of 4 element's one being started in the south.![]()

Yup.
Zapp, Lakeside, Slave, etc etc.
Ohio gets left out these conversations way too often.
a female Snoop clone
You mean mostly AAsEvery region of America does, we all come from the south ultimately.

Funk is Midwestern, the whole Cali got it's sound from the Midwest.
Pigtails (dayton braids).
Dayton rims.
Wearing workers clothes.
I see why you say that but he really wasn't. Rappers like Dana Dane and even Will Smith copied the hell outta Slick Rick. Only thing really similar about Snoop was the laid back conversational flow. Da Brat on the other hand was just like Snoop at first. Funkdafied was clearly biting off G Thang with her and Jermaine Dupri trying to sound like Dre and SnoopSnoop is a Slick Rick clone
I think outer influences factor as well.I dont disagree. NYC had an established black society that looked at these other cats like country bumpkins. I’d argue this is what makes blacks in the other hotspots more “closer” to each other.
Most AAs born in the 50s to early 90s had a grandparent from the south, but in the NE you would probably see more cases of people whos grand and great grand parents were from those areas.
Im not well versed on Chicago but from my knowledge of history. NYC in particular Harlem, Detroit, and Chicago seemed to he the main hotspots where blacks were going.
Culturally from what I can see all three cities had their own thing going on but didnt seem too different from each other. Even listening to music I didnt notice distinct differences until the end of disco/ transitioning into the 80s. Maybe because the 80s we see a transition from live bands and technology becoming more prominent in making music?
Am I the only one who feels like West coast has more in common with the midwest than the south?
Maybe its just a city by city basis, but outside of Texas, and maybe its surrounding states, south nikkas and west coast nikkas act nothing alike
Yea that's what Im saying. I don't think one region in particular can say rapping in itself started there. If we do that we gotta take it back to AfricaRapping as we know it in its current form vs rapping in its raw pure form.
Lol the ancestors were doing call and response to drums in Africa, so that is the root (it its rawest purest form), and then that was built upon in the South with the various music forms and then id argue In the BX they blended the music forms one more time give us rap.
James Brown is from Augusta Ga and many would agree he is the pre cursor to Rap and Augusta is 2 hrs from ATL so we win again![]()
