Why does Jay-Z have 12 platinum albums, and 50/nelly/DMX can only sell albums to close friends?

Because Jay-Z was never that nikka ever. You can't burnout until you reach the top and be a megastar. Nelly & 50 became stagnant trying to make the next hit record. Jay-Z never had r=that problem because none of his songs were actually that big.

Bam, got it in one :sas1:

The only reason these guys are mad about Jay collabing, is because the artists they like or see as morally right (:mjlol:) fail at it and everyone forgets. Just look; Nas is loading up his new album with Magna Carta producers, features (timbo, swizz, justin timberlake, frank ocean)

:sas2: how's that gonna work out for him?

It's hard for a lot of heads to admit that people just fukk with Jay-Z :yeshrug:

Nas was working with Timbaland for his new album before Magna Carta. Nas started his new album with Tim around Summer/Fall 2012 according to him.

So let's compare the fact that Jay Z with Swizz - On to the Next One. Nas with Swizz = Summer on Smash :comeon:.

People need to accept that Jay Z can flow over any type of production and make any song hot and that + marketing + a core fan base is why he's always relevant. People make up all these excuses when the answer is right there. All of Jay Z's contemporaries were only good at one type of sound or style and when the public tired of that sound, all the energy around them was gone. It's that simple, people who embody trends will sell more than him when that trend is the thing, and then fade away when the trend dies down. NO matter what the sound is, it always seems like a Jay record when he's on it and like he's co-opting whats hot as opposed to riding what's hot. That and his albums never sound like anyone else's album that came out that year or his previous album.

I like how besides the daps, the other people are ignoring this post.

Logic and the Coli just don't mix is guess

Superior branding + elite skills + knowing how to play politics = Jay Z. Getting a verse from Jay is a status symbol, you haven't really made it until he hops on a song with you

Jay isn't a good rapper as much as he is a good adjuster

He's pretty much what Eminem tried to be until he realized to himself that selling out is gay on MMLP2

But Jay Z hasn't realized that yet
