I think we will get both of these in a way. Itll end up being .75 this month and ANOTHER .75 in September more than likely instead of a shock 100 point increase this month. They would rather ease those in over time. I think the major thing is people seem to feel that just because Septembers numbers (which will measure August) will possibly be a bit lower, that the Fed will step on the brakes hard immediately, but thats unlikely IMO.
Im also thinking things wont just jerk back into good times instantly just because inflation peaks, its still high as hell and will need more than half a year to get back into reasonable territory. And during that time, job loss, holiday wallet stresses, issues with heating internationally as the cold weather approaches, and food shortages starting to be felt on things like grain will evident.
We will see, but I just feel like everyone keeps expecting it to be a blip that disappears in an instant. That rarely happens with recessions coupled with problematic inflation. It takes a while to dig out.
