You said if you "really love somebody" debt shouldn't be a factor. fukk that. Someone bringing a mortgage they can't pay back into a relationship is not going to help it. There are plenty of equally lovable people who aren't saddled down with debt they can't pay back.
For the record my wife has student loans. One day out of the blue about 6 years ago she got a call. Apparently she had an outstanding loan she never paid on and they wanted to collect. She paid that shyt cash out of her account on the spot

It was like $20K too from what I remember. So I never stressed that shyt because once I got to know her I knew she was good for it.
If you're going to commit to somebody for life it's hardly unreasonable to vet every aspect of their lives and pass if there's anything you can't deal with. Including student loans

"Love" doesn't mean having to accept any and everything your partner brings into the equation
