Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
Diaw played defense in Charlotte under Larry Brown... when they had Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace...

Great point, defensively they were number 1 in the league that year and also had rim protectors behind him in Tyson Chandler, Nazr Mohammed and Theo Ratliff.

If you don't have the bigs to hide shytty defenders you'll always run into trouble.

Diaw improved because he's playing next to an all-time great paint defender.

The Cavs need to press for Gorgui Dieng in the trade for Love, he has all the hallmarks of a potential elite interior defender.

Also, Splitter in addition is a VERY good paint defender. His pick and roll coverage is superb and he has gotten better at protecting the rim.

So, does simply knowing you have a rim protector allow you to play better defense, or gamble more or something? I watched Diaw lock down Bron a few times just 1 on 1. Dieng would be disgusting on the cavs, I can't imagine the Wolves being ready to lose that since Pek isn't a great interior defender

You can overplay and press more defensively when you have an elite rim protector behind you, basically you can be a lot more aggressive. You should know first hand having watched Anthony Davis in college, if people got beat off the dribble he'd rotate over and even if he didn't block the shot his presence alone could cause someone to adjust their shot. Kevin Love needs a shot blocker next to him, same way Dirk needed Tyson next to him to do all the dirty work when they won the title.

Yeah Dieng would be a great insurance policy for the Cavs if they do make the trade for Love they really need to make a point to get him in th deal. They wouldn't have to start him since they have Varejao, but he'd be huge for them off the bench. I don't think he's there yet defensively but he should eventually be good to great at protecting the paint, in his 15 starts last year he averaged 12ppg, 12rpg 2bpg 1spg......

Thanks for breaking that down, makes sense.

I said a couple weeks ago Nerlens would've been great on the cavs squad instead of Bennett, but thats only a given if Noel can remain healthy. hindsight is always 20/20 though, but then again, Noel may actually be a PF and not a C.

If the Cavs do this trade only problem would be at Center.

No good rim protector. They can get one though somewhere.

Yeah breh, good paint protectors don't even need to block shots, just rotating over and getting their hands up to make the shot more difficult can be huge. It's why JaVale McGee is such a disappointment, if he had even 1/10th of the basketball IQ on defense as Shane Battier he'd be incredible.

I think Noel's future is at the 4, the homie @Gil Scott-Heroin doesn't think so, but two bigs can be successful in the league as long as they have shooters around them. Noel looked good in summer league, still want to see how he looks against players that can matchup to him physically.
