Diaw played defense in Charlotte under Larry Brown... when they had Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace...

Diaw improved because he's playing next to an all-time great paint defender.
The Cavs need to press for Gorgui Dieng in the trade for Love, he has all the hallmarks of a potential elite interior defender.
KD coming to the Heat in 2016. You've been warned by me.
Maybe....![]()

So, does simply knowing you have a rim protector allow you to play better defense, or gamble more or something? I watched Diaw lock down Bron a few times just 1 on 1. Dieng would be disgusting on the cavs, I can't imagine the Wolves being ready to lose that since Pek isn't a great interior defenderDiaw improved because he's playing next to an all-time great paint defender.

Thanks for breaking that down, makes sense. You can overplay and press more defensively when you have an elite rim protector behind you, basically you can be a lot more aggressive. You should know first hand having watched Anthony Davis in college, if people got beat off the dribble he'd rotate over and even if he didn't block the shot his presence alone could cause someone to adjust their shot. Kevin Love needs a shot blocker next to him, same way Dirk needed Tyson next to him to do all the dirty work when they won the title.
Yeah Dieng would be a great insurance policy for the Cavs if they do make the trade for Love they really need to make a point to get him in th deal. They wouldn't have to start him since they have Varejao, but he'd be huge for them off the bench. I don't think he's there yet defensively but he should eventually be good to great at protecting the paint, in his 15 starts last year he averaged 12ppg, 12rpg 2bpg 1spg......

I said a couple weeks ago Nerlens would've been great on the cavs squad instead of Bennett, but thats only a given if Noel can remain healthy. hindsight is always 20/20 though, but then again, Noel may actually be a PF and not a C.
