Yup.

I'm hoping the Wiz don't do something stupid and trade the 2nd round pick. There'll be guards or a PF prospect in the mid 2nd we can take to help the rotation...

:dahell: so you don't want the Wiz to trade a fukkin 2nd round pick for Loul Deng. :what:

even if it was just a rental and Deng said he wasn't gonna resign, that is a small price for a quality player when you're in the thick of the playoff race.

2nd round picks have a 90% greater likelihood of never playing an NBA minute than being even marginal role players on the NBA team for more than 2 years.

It comes down to the numbers game at the end of the day. There are only 450 roster spots available in the NBA. Of course not every player who is drafted is going to stick on a roster. Doesn't mean there isn't value to be found in the second round.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
how bout we use drafts from 4-5 years ago and see how many 2nd rounders are still even in the league. those guys you named outside of Green are on bad teams and only playing cause the teams wanna see what they're made of. There's a chance those guys don't even stick in the league 2-3 years from.

for every 2012, there are alot more 2010's. look at that second round and tell me how many guys EVEN PLAYED IN THE LEAGUE. I could only make out two guys that are still around right now (Stephenson and Fields). And that was just FOUR YEARS AGO.

2008 draft

Dragic, Deandre Jordan, Pekovic, Chalmers, Asik.

2009 draft
Jerebko, Blair, Meeks, Beverly, Budinger, Thornton, Danny Green, Patty Mills.

We got major rotational players in the 2nd round, and other drafts have yielded all-stars in the 2nd. Keep trying

I'd rather take my chance on finding a second round gem who will be playing on a rookie deal than trade for a player that won't even be here after the season is over. Especially when my team would have no shot at winning a title with that player.

Breh, whats the point of trading a 2nd round pick for a rental at a position where you are the deepest and you have Ariza who also is expiring and having his best season?

Deng isn't even a reliable 3 point shooter... Ariza is shooting 10% higher than Deng from deep.

It doesn't make sense at all.

You realize the same shyt can be said for a lot of 1st round picks right? The difference is... those guys get more opportunities because if they bust GMs/coaches lose their jobs. Go back and look at some of the previous drafts. There are plenty of 1st rounders that are bench players that can't get any PT.

EXACTLY

the only picks that have value in the NBA draft are 1-15. after that they're all pretty much the same value. there was some site I found a while back that look at the value of each pick in the draft vis-a-vis their production and it pretty much found that every pick after 20 or so is roughly the same.

this is NOT the NFL. most picks in the NBA draft are worthless. the only picks worth a damn are lotto picks and even then its still a crapshoot.

If the Wiz trade for Deng, they gotta match salaries. If they get rid of Nene's contract, that would be a win...

Nene + one of Ernie's kids for Deng works.

Who would the Wiz be trading? Ariza and Porter for Deng maybe?

So, you're using 2010 as your gauge, even though 2009, 2011, 2012 all have rotational players in the 2nd round?

The 2008 draft had Chalmers, Dragic, Pekovic, Jordan and Asik going in the 2nd round.

here we go. this is the link I was looking for. http://www.82games.com/nbadraftpicks.htm

In the second round things get ugly, and the odds suggest you're lucky in some ways to find any kind of contributor.

actual data going back 20 years NOT just one or two year outliers

it shows that after roughly pick 26 in the draft, all the picks are basically the same value. that the likelihood of even finding a role player is VERY RARE. all your getting at that point is AT BEST a 10-12th man on the roster that is there just as a placeholder or guy who comes in at the end of blowout. VERY RARE to find productive role players after pick 26 in the NBA. and definitely impossible in the second round.
