2008 draft

Dragic, Deandre Jordan, Pekovic, Chalmers, Asik.

2009 draft
Jerebko, Blair, Meeks, Beverly, Budinger, Thornton, Danny Green, Patty Mills.

We got major rotational players in the 2nd round, and other drafts have yielded all-stars in the 2nd. Keep trying

men lie. women lie. numbers don't. http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?p=2740

second round picks when looked at in totality not just exceptions are pretty much worthless. your better off getting someone like a Spencer Hawes (who is a known quantity) than just stacking up 2nd round picks.

Optimistic But I Got Hands Tho
and there is a greater likelihood all 5 never play in the NBA than they do finding the next Lance Stephenson or hell even Landry Fields.

They probably package a few to move up in the draft, trade for cash, or draft/stash.

The average team never actually brings in more than 3 rookies per year to the actual opening day roster.

Breh, whats the point of trading a 2nd round pick for a rental at a position where you are the deepest and you have Ariza who also is expiring and having his best season?

Deng isn't even a reliable 3 point shooter... Ariza is shooting 10% higher than Deng from deep.

It doesn't make sense at all.

Deng is a much better player. Alot more to ball than just 3pt%. And as weak as the east is you never know. you could find yourself in the ECF against Indy or the Heat if they get some major injuries. At this point last year, did anyone think OKC would lose westbrook? How about when Rose went down the year before?

I'd rather get a Loul deng (even if its just for a few months) instead of a second round pick which statistically has a high likelihood of NEVER PLAYING A MINUTE FOR ME!!!

You guys need to understand this ain't the NFL. NBA 2nd round picks are close to worthless.

You need to understand how the new CBA works. Teams don't wanna add salary. Second round draft picks come dirt cheap. I'm not trading for a player that isn't going to help me win a title and won't be on my team past this season. Not gonna do it.

don't know if that could work. you ain't gon move up from the 5th pick to the 3rd pick by sending the other team 5 second round picks. at most you might get top 20 protected future 1s. dunno how much value that has :yeshrug:

If we dump Nene's contract on CLE, I'd be for it I think

But in general, I don't see the reason why. If Ariza is hurt, we got Webster to play at SF. He's not a great defender but he's decent enough to where he won't be a liability.

Deng is a good rebounder and can play PF in matchups, I agree. But I'd rather keep the 2nd round pick for other opportunities on draft night.

We've already traded a 1st rounder for Gortat.

I have an issue with going a year without having any picks.. even if you draft and stash some kid, it could work out. That's where scouts have to make their money.

Deng is an expiring K and talented player. This isn't some old vet on his last legs with a huge K. This is a guy who'll be one of the highest in demand free agents next year and you can get him for just a 2nd round pick. I would do it in a heartbeat. Who knows maybe Miami loses LeBron and Indy loses George. Now you go from guaranteed 2nd round exit to maybe the finals. Anything can happen. And what your giving up is minuscule.

you see now that was a moronic move. trading 2nd round pick though is nothing. especially for a player like Deng.

Now you're just playing a what if scenario. Paul George and LeBron James have no injury history in their careers. Yes, freak injuries happen but the odds aren't likely. What if you trade for Luol Deng and he proceeds to blow out his knee and the player that was drafted with the pick you trade away turns out to be a great player?
