Who fukking cares about 1988 what an irrelevant piece of commentary… NBA telecast are not in competition with 40 years ago … it is in competition with the entirety of broadcast media during the time slots that they occupy and last I checked …the nba finals were the highest rated thing on TV all last week …. The ratings thing is disingenuous if they’re comparing things to the 80’s. Times have changed. There wasn’t on demand tv back then. If you didn’t record it with your vcr you didn’t see it. That creates an urgency to watch.

Also, there also was a lack of media in general. The slate was clean at 9pm in 88. There was nothing else on at 9pm in 88. Hell most people didn’t have cable so there were only a handful of channels.

Can anyone answer this? Are the ratings US viewership only or are they talking worldwide?

I wrote about this shyt before Bron stepped foot in the NBA. The NBA oversaturated their marketing into MJ because Nike was making money off his likeness, not them. It didnt help that MJ delivered. shyt…they even gave him his own propaganda minister in Ahmad Rashad. They paid the price after he left. Even the year he “retired” in 94’ the league saw a MASSIVE dip in viewership.

The NBA model has LONG been shytty.
