How can I pick up a trade while working a 9-5?
YouTube and read up on them first
Get a standard tool bag kit because it’s a lot of tools most trades all use (like pliers and drills n shyt)
Take some classes if available. If you can find workshops n such that can help too.
And if you’re trying to switch over to the trade from the job decide if you want to go union or nonunion and then apply. Really good to know somebody in whichever you choose too

Great career wish I did it

Every electrician I know is making six figures
Yeah one of my foremen was talking about his big long ass truck and how it was like 70k when he got it and casually was like “almost done paying it off too “ and I could just feel his checks and balances weigh me down

How often you work in hot temps. Like in attics and shyt
To add on to this tho it’s very possible to get stuck working in hot weather all the time cause one of my sempais basically dug holds and trenches n shyt for most of his first 2 years and this is in Florida so it depends on where you get assigned

How did you get the apprenticeship and get into the union?
How long is the program and what are your expectations post completion re: pay, etc
Is it all hands on or are they teaching the applied math side of electrical engineering?
Oh and to be more specific I think they teach the basic foundational maths of it the first year and then it gets more in-depth year to year, although I’m not sure how deep into the engineering aspect it goes

It can be but it’ll depend on what you do and also how fit you already are
If you’re in shape and eat healthy you can handle a majority of the work
Literally most my foreman and upper level apprentice people have beer guts and get shyt done efficiently so it’s not terribly difficult, again tho, depends, cause you could be asked to dig and fish wires for months on end

None, 23
First week I was mostly drilling in receptacle boxes and feeding the conduit with the wires to connect to them.i bent a few pipes a few days in. Also had a surprise assignment and helped a foreman replace a battery back up. Also learned how to use this gun to stick poles in the ceiling we use to hang wires, pretty simple and they tell me a bunch of jobs are like this. Seems standard

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
So as the title states I'm in my second week of my electrician apprenticeship , I'm in one of the ibew unions in Florida , I've seen some threads of other people on here being interested in trades so I figured I'd provide a very green but insightful thread on my exp so far
Fire away
How you join that? Where do I start? I'm in Dade
