i don't think people are 'less healthy' today at all. if those same obesity rates existed back in those days people would've just straight up died healthcare has come a LONG ways in keeping people on their feet and catching issues earlier than ever

but you're veering into a weird era comparing argument now. the reason the standards have changed for the military is because they know and understand the indicators of a disaster waiting to happen far better than they used to.

and most importantly they'd rather not cut VA checks for people booted out early for shin splints, back, knee, and hip injuries when they could've just filtered them out at the door.

When u initial quoted my post somebody was trying to make the argument that people back in the day were smarter stronger mentally tougher and I was pushing back against that not making an argument about military standards but what you wrote makes sense

It was easier to be in shape back in the day because "junk food" wasn't a thing. Companies spend millions and billions of dollars using scientists to come up with artificially flavored food that appeals to our taste buds and brain receptors.

Old school people ate chicken, beans and greens. Maybe some peach cobbler on Sundays. Food had less hormones in it.

Having said that, I'd take a modern soldier over a WW2 soldier even with the same equipment. Saw a model of the "average" soldier back then. Those dudes were small. Probably more fit but even a couch potato today could man handle one of those dudes back then. Problem is that the old school dude could do a 10 mile hike in full gear with ease. Kids today...

this is not true at all young people have been eating fast food for the last 50+ years,

When you make access to health care and quality food an issue, you create a society of depressed unhealthy people. Look at how the average Canadian or French person is eating and their BMI and the difference is obvious. They prioritize health over profits, and you see it in the city design too. People walk more, breathe cleaner air, eat better food and access counselling, doctors, etc. as needed without having to pay an insurance company out the ass. The results speak for themselves with lifespan and incidences of chronic disease as well as average education level. Putting police out on the street and giving them quotas forces them to arrest people that they other wise wouldn't or else make up some bullshyt reason to incriminate a citizen and fill them private jails up.

You can't even drive a mile without seeing several restaurants. Food served everywhere and with more young people being single their eating out more and exercising less then there's porn and video taking up their time to form a family.

They want this because it makes people easier to control. How are you going to fight against them when the education system has purposefully made you ignorant? how are you going to fight against them when you have diabetes, asthma, and heart disease? how are you going to fight against them when you cant even get out of bed in the morning to do anything other than work because of depression or anxiety?

A healthy, educated, not imprisoned and strong population is what they hate. It's why they don't move to make election day a holiday or fight against gerrymandering. They know that in an even playing field their ideas are fukking garbage and that's why they try to cheat to win.
