Bro I'm a cyber officer. You're misinformed.
*I* dont know shyt cuz I've never done this kinda work before, havent been trained, and lucked into getting selected.
My peers on the other hand, In both ANG and AD are literally geniuses in their field.
Cyber isn't a typical military career field. Many other officers had knowledge prior to the military and if anything are over qualified to be in the military. They joined for a more relaxed work environment, benes, SCI clearance, pensions, experience and certs. Not to mention exposure to network topography that you wont see in the private sector.
Youre also wrong again about experience. in the cyber ops world O-1-O-3 are working side by side with enlisted getting hands on operational experience. As a senior level or fast burner captain, cyber officers start taking on more mission planning, training, stan/eval, weapons and tactics positions. Pretty high level positions especially as the air forces cyber mission expands.
The one thing I'll agree on is that more sophisticated cyber operations officers leave AD asap because of the pay difference. Which is why the guard has the best cyber officers in all of DoD.
I mean Im pretty sure there are some good ones out there. Its not like IT is a secret. But the majority of the ones I've worked with have been garbage. And when I was in they weren't even allowed to have admins so I knew for a fact that they wasnt touching shyt.
Its one thing to sit around watching somebody else work but alot of them would fail if they had to handle real world situations by themselves. And that's mostly what IT is at upper levels. I do what 3 or 4 positions would do by myself and there's nobody above me to pass problems I can't fix off to or below for that matter.
They would probably feast at managing a call center or helpdesk or some shyt but aint nobody lining up for them jobs.
