A lot of people say NIL “exposed” Alabama, how much truth do you say there is to that idea?

Not like Ohio State\ Michigan\Oregon\Mich St.\Penn St\etc.... The recent additions of Texas and Texas A&M skew things for the SEC when it comes to money...... Bama/Auburn/LSU/ aint got it like that compared to those other schools
2025 football recruiting rankings

1 Texas
2 UGA
3 Bama
4 OSU
5 Oregon.

pre NIL and Post NIL they same teams occupy the top of the recruiting rankings. NIL is overblown. The portal is the thing that's made the difference.

This 100%.

SEC has the most elite athletes in it's backyard....but only Texas & Texas A&M have real paper like that.

After that it's a lot of B1G schools plus ND etc.

SEC won because they had access to the widest array of talent and everyone was willing to throw money around (just like the old SWC). Now that money is ON the table instead of under the table....it's a bidding war. They don't have the density of baller azz alumni that can win an open arms race.

Doesn't mean they can't win. Just means that the gap is much narrower and the depth will be lacking.

My question is why weren't other schools doing that?
SMU Death Penalty is why.

They were no worse than other schools in the Southwest Conference, but the NC double A wasn't going to put the hammer on Texas.

A lot of schools were scared to really go in like that. The ones that kept paying? They were "important" enough brands that they knew they'd never get hit too hard.

Also helps that the SEC has the best talent footprint so they didn't have to travel far and they knew exactly what Bubba and Xavier needed financially.

Texas was never as bad as SMU.

Alabama football should have received the death penalty for the persistent NCAA violations in the 90s, culminating in the Albert Means fiasco. Their blue blood status helped them avoid it.

Can y'all show where Penn State an Michigan state are getting more talent than SEC schools?

The talent is going to same schools like it always has. The portal just makes the landscape too unpredictable from year to year.
