Baseball has become a pay to play sport in the US unfortunately. These kids are being sent to expensive ass camps on travel teams, getting private lessons from former pro's, etc....Parents are forking over thousands a year to get their kids ahead. Unlike in basketball where AAU stuff is paid for my shoe companies so families don't feel the burden, baseball and soccer in the US is funded by the parents.
Its true. My nephew is on Team USA. He’s 11. They just had two tournaments in South Carolina. In addition to paying for actually playing, all the hotels and transportation is out of the parents own pocket. Same goes for equipment. You have to invest the time and money to get a realistic return.

that being said, he plays the best kids in the world and throws a 70 mph fastball.

My pops played baseball growing up and coached high school teams. I played a bit, but it wasn't my sport. I agree w the whitewashing part of it....I remember it was always the white kids filtered to pitch, black kids were sent to play outfield smh. Times are different now - we used to play every sport when I was growing up. Now, kids will do one or two things. Even w my son - I had him try every sport...his hand-eye coordination is pretty good, but he was bored w baseball smh.

Black baseball died when Black fatherlessness escalated in the 80s.

Fathers teach baseball. Catch between dad and son is a ritual.

Those suburban Little League programs featured this week on ESPN are run by dads.
I don’t buy this argument

single female headed households are rampant in the Caribbean and Latin America too

Damn he was an all time favorite.

Media always tried to do him dirty :francis:

Same with Eddie Murray. Local sportscasters (Baltimore) use to get on him for wearing a lil gold chain. Despite being a quiet breh they still thought that was flashy :francis:

Anyways let me just go ahead and rep you before I piss myself off having flashbacks lol
Eddie Murray was the man here as a kid. Only second to Cal Ripken. I played from kindergarten to 8th grade and my pops is still a big baseball fan. This city had all kinds of black little leagues programs. There were still a lot of black superstars in the league. Plus it was the only major sports in town for over a decade. I was only 3 when the Colts left so the Orioles was my favorite sports team. But no black kids play anymore

Honestly tho the O’s winning a World Series would mean more to me than the Ravens winning another Super Bowl

Yea, Belle didn’t give a damn. He used to have them white folk so angry, especially after his press conferences.

I was like 7 or 8, but I still remember him hitting this grand slam back in 96. My pop was a huge baseball fan. Got me into the sport. Seeing Belle hit that today gives me goosebumps. I love baseball, man lol

I was 15 when this happened. This and when that little cac Yankee fan stole the ball from the O’s outfielder in the playoffs are some of the my worst sports memories

I was about to come in and post this!

Also Baseball can be a long, sometimes boring sport. It doesn't appeal to people with low attention spans. If you weren't raised around the sport and the culture it won't be as appealing as other more exciting sports.

With the way baseball setup I feel like it’s one of the easiest leagues to get into, could be wrong but I would rather my kid try baseball than football
Nah baseball is the hardest sport to get into out American sports

Global talent pool and three minor league levels to get through before reaching the MLB usually on top of a collegiate career

NFL is much easier domestic talent pool and large rosters and no minor league development system

If this guy can make a MLB team, I'm 100% positive you can pick a random brotha off the street and develop him to be more.

Baseball is a joke.

Ha that’s a utility player pitching a blow out bunch of these cats throwing 100 miles per hour now

The skills of baseball take years to master it’s not a game you can just pick up and dominate

If we're being honest, brehs aren't interested because baseball is ridiculously boring.

I don't know if I've ever sat thru an entire baseball game in my life :pachaha:

Idk what’s more boring, baseball or golf?
