I dont give a fck what that article says breh, the majority of our women do not bleach period, the majority of my friends/family/acquaintances back home do not bleach and im sure the majority of yours don't either. I just got of the phone with my moms, we were laughing hard as sht, this is bullsht sensationalism at its finest. These folk are really trying to say 8/10 of our women bleach lol, what a fcking joke.

In fact, @Don Drogo, @awkwardblackgirl how many Naijan sisters do yall know that bleach their skin?

True, but damn near every black nation harbors groups that bleach their skin or use some sort of chemical so they can adhere to European standards, im not trying to deny it or say its ok, my only issue is yall running with that 8/10 statistic and saying bleaching is a massive problem in Nigeria, it isnt.

Exactly, sht is sad.

Personally.... one cousin I suspect. she lives out in the bay. this bleaching thing is a problem, but its not a major problem like these reports would have you believe

the comments in this thread have me :snoop: :heh: though, talk about baseless generalizations

I feel you. What makes it more ridiculous though is that back home they are the VAST majority. To have a person say that he was treated better when he was lighter (could be false...could be true) in a Africa where most people are dark in general except for the East and North its pretty shameful.

It's one thing to be pressured to do this in a european or american society but to do it back home is :noah:. My girlfriend is Nigerian too so her remarks made me wonder where this shyt stems from and why she is conditioned to feel that way. In my first post i mentioned friends growing up making fun of my skin tone and my coworkers comments about Asia and I live in canada. My craetion of this thread wasnt directed towards africa alone...but the problem amongst darker ppl (brown, black whatever) in general.

You know dues are fukking stupid when
they say an entire continent is filled with ****'s

Like Africa isn't made up of a bunch of different countries.

Breh, I don't even acknowledged them anymore.

Congrats at your ancedotal evidence through your family. I don't uy the 77% jive eviither, but I do know skin bleaching is a major problem in Nigeria.

I'm not on this "I have to save face" shyt many nose in the air Nigerians are on thinking their shyt doesn't stink. Skin lighteners are my aunts biggest seller out of all her products at the Lagos International Trade Fair year after year. More than her make up, clothes and other items. That shyt is a plague.

Thanks, its similar to the anecdotal evidence you're providing through your aunts trade fair. Not sure if that little bullsht save face shot was aimed at me, but that's never been me, check my posting history and you'd see that.

Even if your aunts does move alot of bleach units, she doesn't sell to the majority of Nigeria. On the other hand, my evidence is limited as well, I dont know the majority of Nigeria, so I cant objectivity speak on what the majority of Nigeria does. I'll just say that in my experience, as a man with a large Naijan family that goes back home fairly frequently, it has never been a majority issue.

:heh:

nikkas can't say shyt about Africans with out people tryna find some politically correct squeak hole to get out of it.

This is a board of 18-24 year old black people, for the most part. Africa having 54 different countries isn't some unknown thing.

fukk does 54 different countries have to do with the fact that all of them suffer from the after effects of imperialism/neo-colonialism? It happens around the world in every colonized country. The countries in Africa are no different.

cuz they are bullshyt..its not even close to 2 in 10...

shyt in most places 1 out of 4 women is already lightskinned without being mixed..

u cant just lump all African countries together like that..

its mostly a West African thing..

I'm suspicious of any stats that these news folks throw out (especially when concerning black affairs) they could have given their story more credibility but not throwing out obviously BS stats

I'm surprised BBC put this nonsense out there though..

This is like accusing the entire continent of something thats only rampant in Southern African countries..i.e child rape, gang rape, correct rape etc

just today i seen 1 nigerian dude who clearly bleaches his skin (you can tell by the darker areas on their hands around the knuckles and fingertips) and he wasn't the first, this problem isn't exclusive to women.

Nahhhhhh BBC on that bullshyt.

Still, sad to read. Self-hatred runs deep amongst our people. Sad too because brown/dark brown women are the most beautiful in the world to me. No shade on the lighter skinned sistas though. Love them too.

Sad thing is I bet it's white people who make those products.
