1. No top American athletes
2. No historic ties
3. No international success

You also have to have a culture around the sport for it to be popular and in this country there really isn't any.
Soccer used to the second most popular sport during the immigration wave of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It died out by the Great Depression however until it slowy returned in popularity during the 1970s.

Soccer is the most popular sport amongst youths(played).

The problem is, in order to get high quality training, u gotta have $. Organizations like AYSO make the sport available to the masses. Its cheap and full of volunteers. But the levels of training through them is about as bad as u can get anywhere in the world.

If high quality training was available to everyone for cheap(like it is everywhere else around the world) then the sport would be the most polular and the US would be able to field a top team and it would attract more gifted athletes instead of them going for basketball or football

Controlling a ball with your feet is way more difficult to do. If you don't pick up soccer in your early years you are done. It requires balance endurance and foot coordination. Someone with the body type of Tim Duncan or a giant NFL player would never be a professional player even if they trained from a young age. As for excitement that is debatable. Soccer is all about the build up of emotions to a climax when a goal is scored.
Its unpredictability gives struggle teams a chance especially in international country tournaments. It's difficult for superstars to control the game in soccer like in basketball which is why the top club teams who have the most money end up stacking them with superstars and winning every year.

Every sport requires great footwork but only in soccer do you have to do it with a ball between your legs. And try stopping one of those free kicks or penalty shots.
I give the goalies credit, The rest is flash that doesn’t add to anything valuable but people running around for 3 hours with the score 0-0. NFL players produce meaningful stats and metrics where you can gauge their value on a scoring drive. Soccer players run around and kick the ball and produce nothing...which is something anyone can do for 3 hours. You don’t get extra credit for bouncing the ball off of your heads or balancing it on your toes. Sorry/Not sorry :manny:

  • this whole thread is nothing but...

"I dont drink beer, I dont get why people drink beer"

The only reason we dont watch Soccer in the U.S. is because we didnt grow up watching soccer...
...and a lot of people didnt play in Highschool

    Its not that deep
The real reason is because the actual athletes elected to play football, basketball, baseball and hockey...the rest of the kids piled into soccer mom vans so they could have something to do on the weekends. :manny:

most people who disagree live in or are from other countries who are trying to validate their countries popularity

I live in the US and u sound retarded as hell. I explained why most top athletes dont do soccer. The youth programs are too expensive for most to attend and the only other option is wack ass AYSO where your neighbor can be the coach.

Soccer is CRUCIAL at a young age. U develope the skills and techniques at a young age.

Anyone can pick up basketball and be decent at it at any age. U cant do that with soccer

Nah your explanation is just simply wrong. No one cares about what’s “CRUCIAL” no matter how many caps you type it in. The fact remains, soccer is a 5th tier sport in attracting top athletic talent while everyone is young enough to choose.

Most elite basketball players are getting sponsored invites to teams and camps by junior higj. It's more than economics. If theres no interest, theres no dedication.

The real reason soccer isnt popular is because the MLS isnt popular yet and has worse talent. America wants to watch the best athletes.

Plus all those garbage copycat team names:hhh:

And cricket is the 2nd most popular...who cares. They aren’t as talented as the pro athletes in US sports

Talented how? The fukk is so talented about being a bball player? Most basketball players rely on their height and agility to succed. In soccer, u need technique and stamina and awareness for 45 mins non stop for 2 halves. How is that less talented?

Exactly. In order to get into an elite soccer program at a young age, u need to have $$$. The rest of the world recruits kids and put them in their elite soccer training practically free. Most youth programs in Europe are head and shoulders better then AYSO. When majority of kids only have AYSO as a resource to learn soccer, u get less quality and less interest to take it to the next level. Thats why after their youth age, most athletics kids move on to basket ball or football because the resources to take it to the next level in soccer are scarce. Only wealthy middle class kids get properly trained at a young age and most of them are just bored ass cacs.

No u just a misinformed weirdo who stans US sports.

Pls tell me where im wrong. From The expensive programs to the pick up part. shyt aint an opinion, its facts
You aren't making a point, that's the problem. Assuming you're right--who cares that you have to start soccer earlier? I'm not even sure how you define "good" when there is no metric to base it on.... kid who started playing at 3 has just as much chance of scoring as someone who started at age 10 or 16....all 3 most likely will rarely if ever score.
