I honestly could care less about these immigrants. And I'm telling you some people are going to vote against the Dems because of it.

The climate change thing didn't hit hard enough to scare people into accepting their agenda so they've switched gears to immigration hoping they can exploit people's empathy.

Despite having none of this energy for Obama who deported a shyt ton of illegals and presided over the same camps.

Expect to see an "immigration human rights" bill soon that includes all kinds of unnecessary and unrelated mandates that will make tech companies rich

AOC legit could change the country if she boned up on policy depth.

She needs help from more Congress people like her. A few share her views but don’t got that gift of Gab/social media she has. She is either the vanguard of what Millennial Politicians will look like or she’ll end up ostracized like Bernie is by the future moderate Dems.

This debate illustrates why the immigration debate is so frustrating and why the Dems should stick to their new path led by people like AOC. The arguments against immigration reform tend to come from ignorance flat out and if you take time to look at the issue, the vast majority of anti-immigrant arguments collapes on themselves. We have access to enough information not to stay stuck on stupid about the topic now that Third Way's stranglehold on the Dems has weakened.

Not directly related to AOC, but the points brought up bolster her position on immigration really well and Hasan does a good job showing how easily you can counter a lot of the intellectual laziness surrounding this topic.

If you don't care about horrible things happening to children just because of those kids' paperwork or nationality, then you're not better than anyone who dehumanizes people for their skin color or any other reason. What's happening in those camps is fukked up.

An Astonishing Government Report on Conditions at the Border

What a Pediatrician Saw Inside a Border Patrol Warehouse

The Exceptional Cruelty of a No-Hugging Policy

On Monday, when ProPublica released the now infamous seven-and-a-half minutes of audiotape recorded inside a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility, in which several wailing kids can be heard crying out for their moms and dads, Darcia Narvaez clicked the link and told herself she’d do her best to listen to the whole thing.

Within seconds, however, Narvaez, a professor of psychology at the University of Notre Dame who specializes in parenting and child development, had hit the mute button. “I mostly read the captions,” says Narvaez. She can’t stand hearing children cry for prolonged periods of time without being comforted, she says, “because I know their brains are being damaged.”
Many describe conditions in which, whether by official policy or not, shelter staff are prohibited or prevented from hugging or touching the detained kids—hundreds of whom are younger than 13 years old—to comfort them. Some testimonies, like the one from a former Tucson, Arizona, shelter worker, Antar Davidson (who quit last week because the shelter “didn’t have the trained staffing to handle the influx of younger, more traumatized children”), allege that even siblings in the shelters are prevented from hugging one another:

The breaking point for Davidson came, he says, when he was asked to tell two siblings, ages 6 and 10, that they couldn’t hug each other. “They called me over the radio. And they wanted to translate to these kids that the rule of the shelter is that they are not allowed to hug,” he says. “And these are kids that had just been separated from their mom—basically just huddling and hugging each other in a desperate attempt to remain together.”

First off, that's a dumbass talking point that doesn't even make sense. Climate change is a global issue, not an American one, and it's accepted even by scientists that work for petrochemical companies and even in nations where the populace has no say in anything. You're promoting a stupid conspiracy theory there.

Second, lots of the people complaining now also complained about Obama's immigration policy. But he didn't do it with open racism, he didn't do it with open malice, and he didn't preside over anything ilke the "same kind of camps."

Americans have again recoiled in shock and horror over the past few weeks as observers who visited immigration detention facilities in the Southwest reported that children were being held in cruelly austere conditions. These observers told the press that the children at a facility in Clint, Texas, were sleeping on concrete floors and being denied soap and toothpaste. They described “children as young as 7 and 8, many of them wearing clothes caked with snot and tears … caring for infants they’ve just met.” A visiting doctor called the detention centers “torture facilities.” At least seven children have died in U.S. custody in the past year, compared with none in the 10 years prior. More than 11,000* children are now being held by the U.S. government on any given day. As if these conditions were insufficiently punitive, the administration has canceled recreational activities, an act that, like the conditions themselves, likely violates the law.

At a processing center in El Paso, Texas, 900 migrants were “being held at a facility designed for 125. In some cases, cells designed for 35 people were holding 155 people,” The New York Times reported. One observer described the facility to Texas Monthly as a “human dog pound.” The government’s own investigators have found detainees in facilities run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement being fed expired food at detention facilities, “nooses in detainee cells,” “inadequate medical care,” and “unsafe and unhealthy conditions.” An early-July inspector-general report found “dangerous overcrowding” in some Border Patrol facilities and included pictures of people crowded together like human cargo. More than 50,000 people are being held in facilities run by ICE, and something close to 20,000 in facilities run by Customs and Border Protection, and more than 11,000 children in the custody of the Department of Health and Human * (The government describes them as “unaccompanied,” a label immigration advocates say is misleading because many were separated by the government from the relative who brought them) Some of the people detained by the U.S. government have entered the United States illegally or overstayed their visas; some are simply seeking to exercise their legal right to asylum.
“There were definitely parts of the Obama program that did similar—and, in fact, some of the same—things,” said Chris Rickerd, a policy counsel at the ACLU. “But this all-encompassing skepticism of asylum seekers fleeing violence—justifying cruel treatment, justifying changes in the law, and justifying overcrowding to the point of unsafe and deadly conditions—[is] of a scale and a type that we haven’t seen before.” One pediatrician who visited a Border Patrol facility in Texas observed “extreme cold temperatures, lights on 24 hours a day, no adequate access to medical care, basic sanitation, water, or adequate food.” Photographs show migrants huddled together, languishing in filth behind chain-link fences, some with little more than Mylar blankets for shelter. The president’s defenders on Fox News have compared these conditions to summer camp and house parties.

The Trump administration has denied reports of shocking conditions at its immigration facilities, but contrary to those denials, the government is fully aware of the atrocious conditions. According to NBC News, one internal DHS report described cells so overcrowded that detainees could not even “lie down to sleep,” with temperatures “reaching over 80 degrees.” With inadequate showers, the migrants were “wearing soiled clothing for days or weeks,” and agents struggled to “quarantine outbreaks of flu, chickenpox and scabies.”
The Trump administration has previously deliberately inflicted suffering on children to deter illegal immigration, with its use of family separation. It has altered immigration policy and the asylum process so as to force the authorities to hold migrants, whether they have properly sought asylum at a port of entry or crossed illegally, and has made it more difficult for children to be released to sponsors in the United States by threatening to arrest and deport family members who lack legal status. By deliberately throttling the asylum process, the administration has pushed desperate migrants to risk death by crossing the border illegally rather than presenting themselves at ports of entry, and has sought to prosecute those who would help migrants survive the journey by leaving them food and water, effectively making the federal misdemeanor of illegal entry a capital crime. In private, some Border Patrol agents consider migrant deaths a laughing matter; others are succumbing to depression, anxiety, or substance abuse.
Trump’s latest choice to head Customs and Border Protection told Fox News’s Tucker Carlson that many of the “so-called minors” in detention are “soon-to-be MS-13,” based on having “looked at their eyes.”

So where is that smoke for the millions of black children separated from their parents for nonviolent crimes and ushered through the foster systems?

nikkas actually ready to vote the architect of that crime bill to the presidency.

Someone is running a publicity campaign of deliberate cruelty to black kids? Someone is deliberately separating black kids from their parents in a hunt for votes? Someone is placing these black kids in concrete barb-wire camps where they aren't allowed to shower or even hug each other?

Or are you just spouting off random shyt that has nothing whatsoever to do with the issue?

Says the Trump supporter. :mjlol:

Anyone who votes for Biden is a fool, but if you can't parse between sentencing criminals to jail and deliberating making kids who have done nothing wrong suffer in ways that even prison inmates don't face, you're an idiot or an agent.

Trump supporter is all you got. Your ideas are bankrupt so you just toss out labels to justify your wrongness.

Them kids been shuffled into detention centers long before trump. Those facilities haven't just been popping up. But now you're outraged because of your football like allegiance to a political party.

And the funny thing is, tighter border security would result in less illegals which would mean less deportations and less children being separated from their parents. But you don't care you just want to maintain anger at any cost.

You let the news make you an activist for something that u didn't even care about with previous administrations.

Virtually every single thing you say there is wrong, and much of it was already disproven in the comment you replied to. So what is the point of continuing the conversation? You have to at least try to engage with the argument if you're going to pretend to care about making one.

It takes a special level of ignorance not to realize AOC's supporters are from the Progressive wing that doesn't mess with Biden, attacked Clinton for her support of that crime bill and continually cape for criminal justice reform.

nah it's not even ignorance

just cynicism, which you could argue stems from the lack of imagination from the very media and culture these types proclaim easily sway the "sheeple" has diluted and warped their own worldview on how they see members of their communities.
