San Francisco’s Momentum Machines is a new restaurant chain that boasts a unique feature that is raising eyebrows everywhere – all of the food is prepared and cooked by robots.
“Our alpha machine replaces all of the hamburger line cooks in a restaurant,” said the company in its announcement to forgo human chefs. “It does everything employees can do except better.”
The company’s burger-making machine is capable of making 350 hamburgers per hour.
These burgers are far from your typical fast food burger, however, as customers will be able to customize their exact specifications, including the ratio of meats inside the patty.
The machine will slice and dice toppings such as tomatoes and pickles immediately before the burger is ready to be served, ensuring that everything is fresh as possible.
The burger cooked by robots will even be placed into a bag for you by the machine if you want it to go.
In addition to be faster, better, and flat out cooler than the human burger assembly line, the burgers cooked by robots are more sanitary, human-borne germs do not have an opportunity to reach the food.
The money saved on labor allows them to increase the quality of the burger, giving a gourmet burger experience at a reasonable price.
The company only revealed their machine’s demo model earlier this year, after getting $50,000 in start-up capital from Lemnos Labs in February.
While this is cool and all, one must realize that this will take away a lot of jobs for high school and college students. Unemployment is so high because of the way technology continues to increase and outperform humans.
