they were doing pretty good before he came back :patrice:

the question is how big would sting have been during that time without hogan and the nwo:patrice:
He was already the #1 babyface in the company and multitime world champ :yeshrug:

This isn't close. Sting became one of the biggest wrestling stars of all time as well as during the biggest boom period in wrestling history. We talking top 10 in popularity all time. And that's without the wwe machine behind him.:myman:

Sting was never getting booed as a face.:heh:

Sting means way more to the business than cena. His involvement with the nwo and his presence in tna can't be denied.

He's the icon for a reason.:whew:

One of them actually draws when they show up and do things. One of them actually knows how to cut a promo. And one of them can have a great match without being carried.

Edit: And one of them(just one) was deemed worthy of Money Makin Meltz's Hall Of Fame by their peers, as in the people that they worked with throughout their career.

Lets be real though, the fact that at his peak he didnt even wrestle and when he did it was the end of the peak of the era....this cannot be ignored. He went away and WCW peaked. He came back and it plummeted. And wcw built up MULTIPLE babyfaces to fight wcw...DDP and luger were read hot and Goldberg was ARGUABLY HOTTER.
If you are arguing that point then it plummeted under Goldberg and DDP too. And until Wolfpac Sting happened he was THE guy you wanted to see.

Cena obviously... Sting getting credit for being one of top guys in hottest era...c'mon stop it :mjlol:

WCW blew up because of NWO, goldberg etc ..sting latched on with a "hot" gimmick overhaul....never was he the actual draw...he was a symbol of "real wcw" but was used more as a nostalgia prop to combat the nwo...they made him hot not vice versa

Cena hosted the espys and on the today show...mainstream not even close..career kayfabe not close either (15x champ), cena better in-ring too

And if you still disagree with me, ask yourself this: if cena goes to TNA tomorrow, is that a bigger deal than Sting being there for 10 years not drawing a dime and nobody caring

I don't need to shyt on Cena to big up Sting, I just prefer Sting period. I connected with the character almost immediately as a kid who was into larger than life "alter egos" like Batman etc

History has been and will continue to be kind to him because he built a 30 year legacy without having to stomp all over others to get there, that matters.

Being asked to compare someone you've been into since your formative years to someone you discovered as an adult is tough since you have nostalgia to compete with.

Sting showed up in front of an audience that largely shouldn't even know who he is and recieved LOUD We want Sting chants in 2015 in his mid 50's when this very forum was certain he'd get crickets.

Unlike a lot of folks who just repeat Meltzer's talking points I was unfortunately actually watching WCW in those awful early 90's years that people like to pin on Sting

NO ONE you can name was going to draw in that company at that time because they didn't know what they were doing as far as hiring management. Ole Anderson, Bill Watts, Jim Herd behind the times badly and or inept.

Be safe tho.
