Gta V had a few gimmicks like the submersible that didn’t actually change any gameplay it was just do this do that and it basically held your hand in every mission.
With the an even more boring gameplay loop than what you just described.
At least there was an element of challenge in GTA IV and the story had me invested.
GTA V was funny but a very shallow experience.
You: "Yeah, GTA V had missions that weren't, "go here, chase this guy, have a shootout, lose the cops," BUT those missions were still bound by the game's gameplay."
And no, the loop was nothing like IV's. It had something that R* thankfully realized was missing and corrected with the BOGT DLC -- variety. You can say you preferred the story in IV. Cool. But don't tell me it had more variety in mission structure and objectives. That's objectively false and you're not arguing in good faith. Stop trying to "win" and just say you liked the story better.
