Density is the devil for cities. This is how you get high property taxes and rent. See San Francisco or Austin. San Fran is surrounded by water they have a reason to be dense. Austin is in the middle of big ass Texas with nothing around it and yet they build for density and the excuse they use is they don't want urban sprawl like Houston. Houston doesn't have zoning and does not build for density. Houston is one of the more affordable if not the most affordable big city due to this.

Austin really isn't dense though. Only a handful of American cities are densely built like European cities. Cincinatti is actually kind of like that and it's not expensive. LA is sprawly on the other hand, and it is expensive.

In my opinion, that would be much worse. LIC already has a bunch of luxury condos sitting empty, that the Amazon workers could move to (or Manhattan right across the river which is also expensive already). If they put it in the middle of The Bronx, that would certainly drive up costs in whatever neighborhood they choose.

LIC already has a bunch of luxury condos sitting empty, that the Amazon workers could move to (or Manhattan right across the river which is also expensive already). If they put it in the middle of The Bronx, that would certainly drive up costs in whatever neighborhood they choose.

The BX has a ton of already empty space just sitting there ripe for development...The LIC condos are empty because those white Developers was trying to capitalize off the gentrification of 5 points... and they just had a huge setback... I bet they was hoping the amazon deal would increase the value of those empty units as they planned... Also besides the BX near city island is a nice place to develop... Why would someone making 150k choose a poor neighborhood like Corona? They make enough money to live in the immediate vicinity if their job. Moving to a slummy neighborhood would likely be a downgrade from wherever they're living already (whether it be in New York or elsewhere)
