Anyone saying this is good does not know music.
Amerie is pure karaoke. The background singers were off key. The background singers are supposed to save weak vocalist but they were worse than Amerie and brought a shtty lead vocal performance to even shyttier depths.

She's a bad singer. She always been a bad singer. And she can't dance.
She was/is pretty, unique looking in the landscape of female artists (Blasian), and she made music that we liked or still like.
The songs are good, and still hold up, we can't take that from her. But go back and listen to 1 Thing. She's essentially yelling on that song and even then her voice is cracking and breaking. Great song, terrible performance, but it was different and it was a banger, so it slides through.
She never was and never will be a good singer. No vocal training or practice can make someone who can't sing, sing well.

I wish people would realize that everybody don’t have to be Aretha or Whitney out here to make good music. Amerie made some damn good music but I don’t think anybody was saying she’s this amazing singer. We all know why people are mostly clowning her.. it’s just funny to me.. especially with the current singers people celebrate.

But I agree. Subpar vocals live, but the song didnt make me think she had a strong voice in the first place. If Mariah Carey sounded like this then I'd get ur point

You don't have to be Aretha or Whitney to be able to sound good singing your own songs. It's the bare minimum any artist should be able to do.
