theres no right or wrong way from either perspective, but when people mention andre as a goat candidate or whatever theyre not looking at him as a solo artist, its purely talent and what hes done in outkast or features. the sheer volume of work isnt looked at as importantly as is who do you like better. not everyone has a stringent criteria for who their top 10 emcees are. obviously dre couldnt make a top 10 solo artist list because he doesnt have the solo material, but he could make someone's personal top 10 emcee list.

even if dre released a classic rap solo album, it would prove that he could make a great rap album on his own, but im not sure it would matter to his legacy because you could say its still only one album. as for andre vs nas, i perfer dre, but when youre that great of an emcee, i dont think theres much difference between the great emcees at the top other than their individual styles, but the talents are similar.

Nas has several classic/great albums. 3k has only solo, and that awful piece of shyt automatically knocks him out of the top 5.

Is this how you Nas stans defend your arguments? "im done..."? Really? You had absolutely nothing to debunk from his argument so you cowered away. Why the hell should Dre being in a group detract away from the verses he was spitting? Did Big Boi or other member of the Dungeon Family co-write his verses? Was he not spitting the same structured 16-bar verses as every other solo artists does? It's an absolutely nonsensical position to argue from if that's your main reason for claiming that Dre isn't better than Nas.

Outside of Nas' fan-base, who really feels like he's produced albums of the standard of which was expected of him after he dropped Illmatic? The guy has spent twenty years trying to "make another Illmatic". The proof is that after this year goes by, you will never get the Tribeca recruiting Nas to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of It Was Written, I Am..., Nastradamus, or any other album. Heck, this year marks the tenth anniversary of Street's Disciple and that shyt has gone by unnoticed. So how significant really are Nas' solo albums in justifying why he's a better rapper than Dre?

Nas isn't seeing Dre in the skills department, certainly not in the sales department, and most certainly not as a complete artist; so what really is Nas better than Dre at that makes him the better rapper?

I'm not even going to bother arguing with you Nas stans because then I'll be dealing with circular reasoning. How'd this topic go from justifying why Dre is better

Nas as a skilled emcee, to posting a "publication" that lists Dre ahead of Nas? If your criteria for judging who the best emcee is based on where they are ranked in most publications list then I can list plenty of rappers who are better than Nas. And most of these lists posted by magazines like Complex and The Source magazine aren't reflected of the magazine per say, but rather the view of the particular publisher of the article--which is just ONE person.
If you don't get the solo vs. group argument I don't know what to tell you. Nas holding down albums dolo, songs with up to three verses, with his artistic visions and concepts. Some nikkas can kill it in a group setting, that's where the other poster brought in the Jadakiss example, and there's plenty more examples of MC's who could do in a group setting but made underwhelming albums. Andre has not proved he could make a classic album solo, he has one album and it's an experimental funk album with some rapped verses that is either hated or loved by fans. Nas HAS proven it.

So blame Nas for putting out a G.O.A.T. contender and extremely acclaimed piece of work at 19 that will likely never be replicated again by anyone much less himself. Nas hasn't been trying to make another Illmatic idiot, all his albums have different themes, concepts and types of production. Illmatic is his seminal piece just like Hov has Reasonable Doubt and Rakim has Paid In Full.

No you can't name plenty of publications because every publication I've seen ranks Nas as high as 1 and at 9 at lowest, no publication has Andre 3000 ahead of Nas. I brought up publications to try and get a broader, more objective scope. Make a poll on any forum like Andre 3000 beating Nas on any hip hop site. :mjlol:

I still have 3 Stacks in my top 5, but Nasir is just undeniable brehs. The GOAT.

3K's lack of material has hurt his standings. For God's sake the last hip-Hop album he but out was in 2003. That was 11 years ago. Sheesh.

I am a fan of Andre, but at this stage in the game you can make an argument that he's not even better than Big Boi.

That being said, it's your own personal top 5, pick who you prefer.

Nas is the better rapper and has the resume and then some to prove it.
