Social Democracy is still capitalism. Maybe anti-American capitalism is what's being trendy. And for good reason.

You're right. Lets get nuanced. Let's ask ourselves why Cuba (a country the article cites), despite the HUGE sanctions against it from the West, somehow has a better healthcare system and education system than the United States...aka the largest economy in the world and "the richest country in the world."
Cuban Healthcare isn't better than US Healthcare. It's just cheaper.

There are plenty of capitalist countries that have cheaper healthcare and for a variety of reasons, but for those who can afford it the US almost always ranks near the top. Specifically in terms of innovation

If Cuba doubled their per capita, they would have cheaper and better healthcare than the U.S. :ohhh:

So you're saying that healthcare wouldn't improve if Cuba spent $1116 per person instead of $558? :martin:
Depends on what it's spent on. That's the crux of the argument with US Healthcare.

There are areas where market forces lead to innovation and thus higher costs.

But since a lot of the research done in the first place is subsized by the government the prices are many name brand prescriptions are inflated merely for profit and then passed along to consumers.

That seems to be where most of the anti capitalism sentiment comes from.

Don't want to get too wordy, but the government can easily take steps to keep prices under control.

It's not like these foreign countries aren't negotiating prices with this US companies. :yeshrug:
