What are the pros and cons of the field?
What website did you go to for self teaching?
Pros: easy to enter without medical knowledge
Not mentally taxing work, lot of repetition
Opportunity for overtime nearly always
Turnover is high so typically upward movement is there as well as long as you learn your instruments/priority items
Uniform/scrubs are provided so no need for "work clothes"
Transition to other depts/speciality like nursing/surg tech/respiratory therapy/lab tech
More than likely the dept. will have high woman to man ratio, so for those who are looking for that type of environment/cavorting with coworkers
Cons: Mistakes have to be avoided especially in urgent cases
Facilities outdated equipment
Physically takes a toll; plenty of lifting so hands, back, legs
Shorthanded in terms of staffing so expect plenty of work and not much backup
The pettiness/gossip that happens throughout the dept.
Blamed by OR or reps for things out of your control
Tech…. Charge…. Lead/educator……Supervisor….. and now AD
That's dope. Props. As AD, how often are you dealing with the OR/OR management?
