One day a kind and generous soul swings through and says "You've been pretty solid, here's a top of the range sports car and because I'm feeling funky here's an infinite fuel and maintenance card plus we'll pick up the insurance, for life. Enjoy!" and bounces, leaving you with a smile on your face and brand new keys in your hand.

What do you do?

Drive real fast from time to time? Enjoy the ride? Use it to explore? Be thankful for your gift? Would you cherish it? Share it with the world? Allow others to experience your joy?

How about this, why not walk around it every now and then and smack it up with a hammer? Piss on the seats? Pour some fish grease in the tank? Sky is the limit, you can mess it up any way you want, it didn't cost you anything after all so why care plus, in some bizarre way it might actually be fun to disrespect your gift.

Sounds foolish, right?

You are the driver. Your bodymind is the sports car and your choices reflect how you treat it. Keeping it tuned up for top performance is option A, the one that makes sense. Option B with the Hammertime is what you do when getting twisted - however you choose - whichever way you dress it up, especially alcohol.

Look into the link between alcohol and melanin.

I have a beer every end of my day when I get home. Don't drink more than 2.

Indo everything in moderation. Haven't got wasted in years. Don't have a reason to quit.

I stopped drinking in 1991. I started in my teens because I wanted to 'fit in'. It continued on a semi-regular basis into adulthood. I drank throughout my time in the Marine Corps and it got regular. After duty I would head to the Class VI store and load-up enough alcohol to last through an entire week. Then, in '88, I volunteered to replace another Marine for Desert Storm. We didn't know that it was an actual War until we were in the middle of the Indian Ocean. When we found out, it was through the most spectacular display of fireworks you can imagine. I thought it was the End of the World. Scared me so bad that I was a wreck for 6 months until I got shipped back stateside. That entire time is hazy because I drank HEAVILY just so I could function. This continued for another 2 years until I found out my mother was sick. Her kidneys shut down. I was the only surviving son in my family and went through my Chain-of-Command to get out early and help her. I took my last drinks on the plane from LAX to Newark International. To this day I don’t remember how I got back here.

Haven't touched anything alcoholic since.

Once in a blue moon I might have a sip of wine or beer if I’m over a friend or relatives crib.

Both my grandfathers were alcoholics, have several alcoholic uncles also. Something I’d prefer to stay far away from. I’ve seen the negative affects on careers, families, health etc

Never started...Never had one drink.

cool...so you have absolutely nothing to offer to the discussion

anyway @ OP

I stopped recently

it just stopped being “fun” for me

I’d mostly drink on weekends to relieve the stress of work

but w/ me being home more the last couple years

I started drinking more

didn’t feel bad about it before cuz I felt “work hard...play hard”

somebody made a thread about that recently and I could totally relate to the sentiment

but then I started using it as a crutch to “curb” boredom

started off the new year w/o drinking for the first month...drank on 3 occasions since then

last nite watching the fight I only had one beer which is unheard of for me lol

but my body is feeling a lot more spry and more importantly I’m sleeping regular longer hours which contributes to me not feeling as sluggish

It's been relatively easy for me. Leaving college was the best thing for me in terms of weaning myself off of alcohol. In the last six years, I can count on both hands how many times I've gone to a bar. I may have a can of beer every once in a while but that's rare.

Yeah. About three years ago. I was a light drinker to begin with so it wasn’t very difficult.

I drink NA beer (no alcohol beer) occasionally because I still enjoy the taste of beer...

Just replace the addiction with working out and transition it to a hobby or goal

Breh, you outchea :old:
Props for sharing. Life can bring perspective and clarity. It's up to us to make a righteous decision.
I got 2 and a half years sober.
I am lucky to be alive and in good health.
I really stunted my growth as a human, never chose a career path, spent all my time DJ'in and drinkin :yeshrug:
I finally listened to the signs and moved my ass away to a whole different state.
Everybody's body is different, and mine is allergic to the shyt.
Alcohol is an absolute beast.
