I knew he was a great singer, but I didn’t realize how special he really was as a vocalist :wow:. Like, I’d never heard that version of Bring Home to Me live (been listening to that album since I saw the doc) that he did in Harlem Square. He was able to sing and put that raspiness in his voice whenever he wanted. :lawd:

I’ll always be your slave - till I’m buried in my grave. :wow:

He was special. Could go from the chitlin’ circuit to the Copa and kill it.

The Night Beat album gives you a sense for his greatness.

Good read. LC Cooke’s relationship with Allen Klein after Sam Cooke’s death was always questionable.

I have to watch the documentary, but what I've read on here and that link with the last comment, had me:ohhh:. All these years I just brushed it off like he went into a rage and the poor woman defended herself, but that doesn't look to be remotely the case. Gangsters are still getting away with a lot of things today, but not like in those days. Back then the sh!t they could get away with such as Cooke's murder, is wow.

A lot of good info here, too:

The X Spot: The Soul-Stirring Difference between Y & Z: The Bite of the Small Dog

Several blog entries from someone who clearly knows what happened.

I finished watch it. What a great documentary :mjcry:. A soul legend taken from us too soon.

I don't buy his death at the motel situation with well known prostitute and got killed by the motel manager black woman. Clearly was a setup.
