Saving Private Ryan was WWII. It's difficult to compare warfare that's 20-25 years apart.
I understand that.

But compared to any Vietnam movie (Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, etc) the vets said AN. I can't imagine and have never heard many say SPR was much like their experience.

I have heard that the Normany invasion was pretty accurate tho.

Apocalypse Now is in my top 3. I liked SPR a lot too, but it's propaganda. AN doesn't try to make Vietnam pretty. It takes a while, but the director's cut is piff

Take 2-3 sittings if you think it's too long, but it's basically a string of vignettes or short stories that cover the war from different perspectives. You understand more what it's all about from the long version
