Are we finally ready to accept that rappers today are way richer than those in the 90s

Only ones eating back then was CEO nikkas you named. Birdman,P,JD and Puff were on another level. The OP is talking about B and C level guys like 42 Dugg and EST Gee walking around with 50k in their pockets at any given moment with over 100k in ice on. Top tier rappers like Migos,Lil Baby, Da Baby,Durk,Moneybagg can command 150-250k for a show now.

Ice Cube was literally living with his mom when he left NWA.

Breh, you do realize that these rappers who were being cheated out of their money in the 90's walked around with money, rocked ice, and had cars right? How are you a fan of the Hot Boys and not see this? Walking around with five figures on you and posing on IG is nothing different from rappers stunting in the 90's.

You're in here talking about CO'S were the only ones eating in the 90's. Do you know how many rappers doubled as CEO'S in the 90's. A lot of them were label owners with real artists under them that were successful. And it wasn't that they HAD to be CEO's to make any real money. It was because in the 90's, there was so much money in rap music that if you were a hot artist, the label just gave you a label just because. Busta had a label. Mase had a label. Individual members of Bone had a label.

And you talking about Cube living with his moms as if his story stopped with him leaving NWA. Cube had a string of successful albums in the 90's that set him up for other avenues of wealth.

And this probably is the most remedial thread ever created on here. I mean, on one hand, it's like someone bragging about how an entry level employee flipping burgers at McDonald's in 2021 makes more than a store manager at McDonald's would have made in the 90's. Over a 22-30 year difference with no consideration to how the prices and cost of living have increased over time.

And the most bogus aspect is these people arguing in favor of "C level rappers today touching more paper than your favorite rapper in the 90's" is not really even looking at the full picture. And furthermore of presented no proof of that actually being the case.

People with a social media platform who have monetized content are caking in this era. Times are different and decades ago, YouTube nor an Instagram existed. Not everyone doing it is caking though.

Last, a lot of you are gullible enough to believe that these "B, C, D list rappers" flexing on Instagram are making more than A list rapper in the 90's. It's like believing all the 90's rappers owned all their cars, homes, and jewelry.

Recorded music revenues hit $23.1 billion in 2020, with artists direct the winners – again

$23.1 billion in 2020, go ahead and keep sleeping on the money streaming has brought into artists hands without the overhead of marketing and expensive million dollar music videos.

Youngboy would've thrown them that $1.5 million and told them to keep it

Got artists like Lil Pump and 6ix9ine signing 8 figure deals but I'll let you tell it

I work in the business. Have been forever. I know where the checks go and where they don’t, lol.

Streaming revenue was $14 billion and change. In total, around the globe, all music genres made $23 billion. Not Hip Hop. Back in the late 90's, the number was over $30 billion on just CD's alone. Sales overall, are still down 73%. But if you want to talk about who's getting paid, it's not the rappers. It's the labels. 5% of all revenue is going to artists. That's their share of the market revenue. 5%. So labels are getting 95% of all this money.

Which means you can sign whatever deal you like, but if you're only getting 5% of the deal's net income, you're still getting jerked. Lil' Pump is in a 360 with Warner. Warner says they signed him and gave him an ADVANCE of $8M. Not $8M in cash. He's officially on the hook to recoup $8M. So if Warner is taking 95% of all the money he makes, and he's getting around 5, how much bread do you think he really has? That'll leave him with about $200K after taxes, for himself. But he's still going to need to recoup the entire $8M. This is just hoping that he's actually able to do it. And you can apply that to everyone else because all these labels are publicly saying what kinds of deals they're signing these dudes up for. It's no secret. Simple math shows you how they're getting robbed.

So don’t get caught up in the numbers they throw at you. Pay attention to the actual deals and what that means for them on the backend. Because the minute you sign one of these deals, you're millions in debt and working to get out of it. You don’t see a dime until you cover the initial advance and even after that, you're still only pocketing around 5% of the profits.

This is Music Business 101. Problem is, most dudes won't take the time to actually learn the business. Which is why so many of them end up broke or living on borrowed money they struggle to pay back.

And the majority of that 23 billion is going to hip-hop the most popular genre in the world, which it wasn't in the 90s and the 360 has existed for decades, 90s artists were under that it, what they weren't getting is the deals for the amount these current artists are getting which is why I posted the video of Method questioning how all these artists are flying private now.

Those artists are getting those deals because there is so much money going around in the industry with little costs compared to how it was back in the 90s, they will give you $5-$10 million with you only having a hot single, if you fail to recoup they aren't worried about it because they are getting so much over here with these other artists also signed to the label, they sure as hell weren't giving artists in the 90s these deals.

My dude, none of this is accurate.

Meth asked what he did because he knows how little these people are making. And standard 360's didn't come around until the collapse around 15-16 years ago. The actual architects of it have spoken about it and why and when they did it before. A couple of us already spoke on it earlier in the thread. Go peep that.

That’s not why he asked that

Club appearances and features is what u haters are missing. Them dudes in the 90s were in the clubs for free just to get noticed. These dudes today don't budge or pull up to the club unless it's at least 20k for the APPEARANCE. 5-10k a feature in every city you touchdown to perform. Local guys given these rappers 5-10k cash for a good verse on their mixtape. HUSTLE

These dudes HAVE to charge for appearances. They aren't selling music, so they have to leverage their brand to generate income. 90's artists weren't doing it because they actually saw profit. And the crazy part about all of your posts is none of the info you're stating as fact is supported with proof. Someone asked for receipts of Biggie actually being worth $10 million and it was presented with ease. Nobody's hating.

What you're claiming these new dudes are doing was actually being done in the 90's by independent artists. They didn't have label deals, so they were charging for club appearances, shows, etc. They could demand the fee because they had songs that were big locally, regionally, and in some cases nationally.

Pulling up to the club a couple times a week has alot of these rappers touching 6 figures a month. Then u add in the local fellas who want the people in their hood to hear them on a song with such and such. Boom another bag of money. The label ain't out here eating off club walk thru and local feature money Holmes.

And again, you're assuming that it's the norm when it isn't. Again, what you're describing is the independent hustle of the 90's. Of course the labels wasn't seeing the money because the indy artists were out here grinding on their own. They didn't need a major label, but some of them signed anyway. E-40, Eightball & MJG, Playa Fly, Three Six and a lot of other rappers were doing exactly what you're describing before they had label deals, but they were also moving hundreds of thousands of units without a major.

Apparently:

Nicki Minaj
  • Estimated cost per post: $651,000
In September 2019, Nicki Minaj shocked fans with a tweet that she was going to retire from music to have a family. Not even a day later, Minaj apologized for the tweet, saying it was insensitive and that she would address her plans later.

Whether or not Minaj will pivot away from her music career in pursuit of other dreams remains a mystery, but her success on Instagram is clear. With 106 million followers, Minaj earns $651,000 per social post, according to Hopper HQ.

Minaj's most recent sponsored Instagram posts included her collaboration with Fendi, totaling up to six posts so far in September. If Minaj were to do an average of six sponsored posts per month, she would bring in $3.9 million per month, a total of $46.8 million per year.

Just for example.

Meth asked because he knows what he was getting and sees what current rappers are spending now, which would not be the case if they were making what he was back then.

Meth in that video said he was getting 25 a show, if you tell any artist with any sort of a buzz 25 for a show they are gonna tell you to get the **** out of their face.

I'll say it again 2pac signed a record deal for bail money in jail, 6ix9ine signed a deal for $8-$13 million in jail.
