Here's the thing with K&P...they are funny, to me at least partly because they understand white humor.

I love comedians. I look at stand ups and comedic actors like I do rappers damn near so I kinda study them. And while I won't say that there is "black" comedy and "white" comedy being able to relate to different demos is a skill that comedians need IMO to be ATG's. Dave to a lesser extent is a black man that understood how to connect to white folks sense of humor.

K&P being bi-racial, it comes natural to them to be able to tap into corny, white/absurdest humor and they are good at it, even if they're inconsistent with it.

This shyt fukking KILLED ME yo...:laff:

But that's a special blend of perspective that you aren't going to get from a stereotypical "black" comedian. They are comfortable with being odd-balls around other black people due to their upbringing because I would imagine it's probably been one of their life's challenges, so you see it come up and play out in their skits and even in the Keanu movie, they are very self aware of how they are perceived and they try to make something out of it. I admire that. Dave has the same flavor like Aries said. I wouldn't say it's about authenticity because they are def AUTHENTIC in themselves...Dave is just funnier/better at this shyt.

The skit made me laugh :manny:

I expected him to hate but he made a fair point. Especially relative to the question he was asked.

he's still hating to me...i like Key and Peele and I think Kevin Hart is funny too

but a lot of nikkas don't like them because they veer too far from "hood" comedy

mike epps does straight HOOD comedy and nikkas love him, that cat has NEVER made me laugh :yeshrug:

I agree 100% with his perspective in their portrayal of black characters. It's not necessarily about being from the hood or being hood it's about a connection that many black people have among each other despite how or where they were raised due to the common black experience in the United States. They don't really have that mostly likely because they were raised by white women in predominately white environments. As @SunZoo stated before they obviously know this and have used it as a boon in their comedy and it works (most of the time).

Lastly we already know how this conversation is going to go, either they are both unfunny c00ns that need to be smacked or they are hilarious and Aries his supporters are hating old washed up negroes. I think Aries was very much middle ground in his statement and we should not ignore that Aries worked with both of those guys for years so he does have some credible insight on those two.

Aries actually spoke the truth, there was no hating whatsoever in his comments.

Interesting thing he said about Chappelle and why he left, I've also heard his partner Neil and a few others touch on it briefly, even Chappelle himself in his Oprah interview spoke on it briefly, was that he was receiving pressure from the black elite in Hollywood to not portray us as a race in certain format; which I find interesting because looking back, it seems he had a lot of support amongst black Hollywood. I mean he had Spike Lee, Nick Cannon, Mos Def, Paul Mooney, Patrice Oneil, Q-Tip, and the Hip Hop community supporting the show. Who exactly amongst the black elite had an issue with his show?

Movies and tv shows
I've said it before, Key & Peele are funny but they're safe to white people to call funny. It's how I see it, when I said this in the other Key & Peele thread I was told they shytted on white people regularly but I still think they're safe comics. Aries isn't, he'll be on the safe path and make a left telling gutter jokes that will make white films uncomfortable.

:yeshrug:At least that's how I see it.
Also, Aries is mad that they made their element work for them well enough to go beyond Mad tv to their own show. I have yet to see their movie, might go see it next week

Funny they were chosen by many on thecoli though:sas2:...thought this was a urban lifestyle site, only to watch nikkas demonize Mike Epps,Lil Duval and other comics chosen by the black community, chosen by the hood, for makin a hood flick...people accused them of suporting stereotypes....meanwhile Key and Peele make a movie, where it looks like they exploiting stereotypes to me,and aint nobody said shyt:mindblown:
