Good....Stop putting money into all these churches and put it into more black businesses that would actually benefit our people. These churches are running the biggest con games and are quick to buck dance and c00n it up. Pastors are the real hustlers and they use god to blind you from seeing the real truth

I haven't been to church in years and my fam always try to give me an earful about it. I'm just hip to the game

I guess we should also give up English, French, Portuguese, etc. Oh while we're at it, let's all quit school - it's the white man's education! Better yet, let's leave the country and go back to the land of our ancestors...Where exactly do we draw the line with that logic? This is a serious question because I see so many people use the whole "slave master religion" as a counter to Christianity and I never understood why it never applies to other things.

You have to ask yourself what was the purpose of making black people into Christians when they were brought to the "new world"? In the Education of the Negro by Carter G. Woodson, he talks about why Africans were converted to Christianity. The reason they did it was because they realized that when Africans were indoctrinated into Christianity, it made them better slaves. When I get home I'll pull out the quote from the book.

And my stance applies to any religion that was forced on African people by force, including Islam. That's not our religion and it's not our culture. Unfortunately very few of us want to identify with anything African but that's a whole other thread.

The white man is the fukking devil. This just confirms it.
Breh OneUnited is a Black bank.

These churches need to make better financial moves. Balloon mortgages and commercial loans are no joke. You need to put that money aside or make substantial payments while times are good to avoid problems down the road. Or borrow only what you need.

I know that AME church in Roxbury. It's a shame they're in this position but it's a 100+ year old church they should have owned the church and land outright a long time ago. A few small mortgages for some cash is alright but a 1mil balloon is dangerous because banks aren't required to refinance and market conditions some times take that option off the table for a bank.

Again, please tell me what has been the benefit of the black church to the black community for the last say 40 years? What issues do the black church stand in support of today? In the 1960's the black church led the Civil Rights Movement. From Dr. King with his non violent approach to the Deacons of Defense with their belief in armed self determination.

But what has the black church taken a leadership role on since then? Police brutality? Mass incarceration? Massive black male unemployment? Intra-community violence? Has the black church built any institutions that benefit the black society as a whole?

I'm genuinely curious because I studied the history of the black church in America, after the Civil Rights Movement, the church became essentially powerless, and I'm sure cacery was somehow involved.

In the neighborhood I live in, the Nation of Islam has done more for black people here (at least from what I've seen with my eyes) than the many churches that are here.
I feel like the issues you're stating come from the lack of a wide known and universally accepted leaders in the black community. But to say churches do not stand for the issues that you mentioned is ignorant. The churches that could be affected by this are doing what you asked, just on a community scale rather the nationwide scale that you're asking for.

I'd rather churches get foreclosed on so a viable business that actually pays taxes, employs people and pumps some revenue into the economy can take it's place.
