Nigeria is a country made by colonialism. Many different tribes, people, cultures and languages. Like most colonialism stories the British favoured certain tribes over others.

I come from the Benin Kingdom in the south of Nigeria, independent until 1897 when it was annexed by the British. Became part of what is now Nigeria.

Nigeria used to have an agricultural base but because of the military coups the economy relied on oil. Oil prices are unstable and fluctuate wildly. A lot of money in the 80s went into dictators pocket (we're talking billions of dollars) and went into western banks (see Europe and the US) Also a lot of money went into servicing foreign debt.

There's a ton more shyt that would take hours to rake over.

I think you have a misunderstanding of what goes on in Africa. Every time someone stands and tries to improve the country and free ourselves from colonial shackles, a military coup happens. All sponsored by Western governments. The CIA has been behind coups in Nigeria. And Haiti. And Ghana and the Congo.

If Nigerians are so spectacular, why haven't they made their living situation in Nigeria ideal?

Petrol-state. Any nation which starts basing an oversized portion of its economy on a single raw material or resource becomes higher vulnerable to government corruption, extreme wealth inequality, and stagnation of development. It's why nearly all the oil-dependent nations from Nigeria to the Middle East to Russia to Venezuela make loads of money yet keep the majority of their population in an absolutely shytty situation.

Back before the oil boom in the 1970s the country actually had a decent small-manufacturing sector and was making progress in most areas. But all that oil money fukked it up, they let manufacturing go backwards and agriculture stall while government croonies took all the oil profits for themselves and neglected everything else.

Being in their Homeland is probably the biggest advantage Africans have but it gets negated when European and American interests consistently influence the leadership that gets “elected” or removed via coup or regime change. This often results in misappropriation of the national treasury which results in poor funding for schools, hospitals, roads and everything else. This also impacts the natural resources that are supposed to be an advantage. Look what happened to the Ogoni people for example. Being in their homeland didn’t help them and they weren’t demographically able to overcome the oppression brought upon them by a military regime ruled by another ethnic group. As of today their environment is destroyed due to oil pollution, their leaders were killed and the benefit little from the billions of dollars extracted from their land.

The Demographic majority You speak of doesn’t take into account Ethnicity and Tribal delineation that govern demographics from an African perspective. Everyone is black and tribe/ethnicity/language/religion are the major dividers. This is the tool colonialists use to pit Africans against one another even today. The white man loves the Hausa/Fulani today but it will be the Yoruba tomorrow. So it’s not really an advantage.

I agree that culture and Heritage is important but African Americans created our own culture and heritage despite not having the full understanding of their African origins. And this culture is emulated by so many people globally even Africans.
