Second time I’m saying this... California will chew you up and spit you out. It’s rough out here. Back in the early 2000s moving out here was doable. Today? If you’re not in the 6 figure range...

:francis:

And 6 figures ain’t shyt here unless you’re willing to commute far to work and live in the cuts.

:whoa:

Just saying, I’ve seen it all from blue collar to white collar to straight up gutter. Best advice if you’re still about it, get into sales, stack paper, start your own business. Buy a truck and dispatch. I’ve seen dudes cake off of that.
I want to take this route when I graduate college. Are there any places you would recommend?? I'm hoping to get some of that Software Engineer/Developer money :lupe: I want to stay out there maybe 10/15 years then come back down south. From middle of nowhere Louisiana So I'm use to commuting and don't mind moving anywhere tbh I'd feel right at home in some backwoods place even lol

I’m originally from Louisiana. Been in San Diego the past 17 years. There are plenty of places to live if your money is right. Moving here to do blue collar work ain’t the lick though. Mexicans got that on lock. If you’re getting into tech, trust me, San Diego is very underrated in that field, but the jobs are out here in Sorrento Valley. You could live in Chula Vista, Clairemont Mesa, La Mesa, etc. and still be close to the action and only a couple of hours from LA and a 6 hours from those weekend trips to Vegas.

thats a hell of a kicker does the average resident make 65k i somehow doubt that.

We have rent control out here, that's the only reason there's some semblance of culture still around. Moving here fresh is a whole different story. 65k really ain't even enough tbh

No.

Yes. hopefully.

Don't know as of yet.

Don't really care as long as its not TOO hood.

No kids.
Ok so you are definitely living in East Oakland with at least one roommate if not 2. I live in the 20s in east Oakland. It don't look great but it's not bad. All Mexicans and Asians basically with some gentrifying white folks and blacks who been in Oakland forever around.

I have a roommate. Our place is $2,400 for a 2br that looks pretty good but no real fly shyt. So I pay $1,200 a month. Rent controlled so it won't get much worse for me as long as I dontd move.

You could pay less than this but the further you go toward up International Blvd into the 80s and 90s, the more hood it gets.

The only way to live here comfortably if you aren't making 6 figures and don't have rent control from 2012 or earlier is to shack up with other people. You can rent rooms for as low as $900 a month.

Look Oakland is a wonderful place to live if you got bread. People who don't live here don't know what they are talking about so ignore the bullshyt. It's real laid back and chill. Really fun people who like to have a good time. Legal weed. Beautiful weather. Gorgeous scenery. Lots of progressive politics. Great food. Good public transportation.

But do you really want to live with 2-3 roommates at 35 with no car in a gentrifying city with rising costs? If you got people out here who will hold you down if times get tough who you can kick it with and enjoy this shyt then take the risk. But if you are coming here solo with no advanced degree or certs then I would say nah, don't do it.

Because liberal cacs in the bay area like to pretend to be extraordinary open-minded and enlightened but they treat black people like second class citizens more than in any other place I've lived in California and the country.
This is gospel truth that I know for a fact. That and it's expensive as fukk.

Breh, there is racism every where, it's less here then anywhere else but it still exist.

With that said.
I'm east Oakland born, Frisco raised
Lived in union city, Brentwood in Oakley, all in the bay and I have never seen black people or expeienced being treated like a second class.

Maybe that's just me though...:yeshrug:
You're probably just used to it, breh
Black people from the Bay try their hardest to let all that racism roll off their backs and act like it doesn't bother them.
Not to mention the astronomical amount of wenching and bucking that goes on there
The shyt amazed me.
Nah, Bay Area cacs are real deal racists. The main difference between them and Southern cross burners is $$$
Bay Area cacs are loaded and they live up in the hills away from POCs
The "hip" ones that live in the flatlands still enjoy their money.
They're soft but they still feel they're superior, they let the police handle us
Rednecks dont have shyt so they channel the anger about their poverty into their hatred towards Black people
They grow up handling guns and doing physical labor and shyt so they're far more rugged than the silver spooners in the Bay
Not only that, gentrification is bringing more hardcore WS to the Bay, like The Pr*** Boys and that cac that killed Nia Wilson.
BBQ Betty, Permit Patty, Permit Betty all happened in the Bay.

What happened in the bay is not new, racism is here but not in abundance like you think, I've lived in 5 different cities in the bay and none of it is how you described, my uncle was jumped by white suptemist at Bart and sued Bart big time, that was 20 years ago!!! So yes sh#t like that been going on

There is no getting use to racism, when I see I call it out period, the bay as a whole is super diverse, SF not so much, but there's alot of Asians, Latino, Indians, white, still some blacks
