Besides 9/11, what's a major historical event you lived through that you’ll never forget where you were when it happened?

I think we’re living in pretty historical times right now. Information has never been more readily available yet it seems the world has gotten dumber because of it.

Sandy Hook haunts me til this day. That was when I knew american politicians did not care about american lives
I was off work that day and saw it on the news. I picked up my niece from school that day and I had to hold back tears. Seeing all these kids about the same age walking out just hit me hard for some reason.

9/11 was the real first one for me. I didn't understand/care about Clinton's impeachment.
So I guess from that moment
2003 BlackOut :wow: I had leftover birthday money and man, that shyt hit different. Moms didn't really give a shyt where we went because she was chilling on the stoop with the neighbors anyway, so as long as me and my boy passed around every couple of minutes we were good. I stayed out until like 5:00 AM. Got into so much shyt and I was only 11. I can't think of a time I saw so much people just having fun and shooting the shyt.

Katrina and Kanye's comments. Usually footage like this was shown when we bombed a country or some shyt happening somewhere else... this shyt was in our country and all everyone did was fingerpoint. Kanye's comments were huge because you knew they weren't scripted and he just said what most people were thinking.

Obama wins the election. He was leading, but man, this feels understated. You always felt like some fukk shyt was going to happen or had a feeling that some cac would go postal, but fukk. I know it's different now (not really) but to see that shyt live.. it left me in shock. I couldn't believe it. I had to step outside and walk around for a bit just to clear my head that day. People honking horns and shyt, I thought it was a dream.

MJ's death. shyt killed AIM.

LeBron takes his talents to South Beach.

Hurricane Sandy. One of the worst weeks of my entire life. Never thought some shyt like that could happen here, but man... fukk that shyt. It seemed like everything around me wanted to come crashing with that hurricane.

Occupy WallStreet Movement. I'll keep this to myself, but this is probably the most important moment of the 2010's that lead to a bunch of shyt and people learning from its failures. It's the root of every form of hashtagvism and it got completely fukked over.

Trump winning.

Kobe and Gigi dying.

COVID.

Also something that goes overlooked is the birth and rise of Facebook.

There was literally life before mass consumed social media and life AFTER mass consumed social media and Facebook was the totem. That shyt literally changed the WORLD.

Same thing for Napster when it comes to file sharing and downloadable content. Napster single handedly led to the DEATH of physical media.

9/11 - I was in Florida at the time and watched it live on the news. We were getting ready to go out for some breakfast then saw it happening in real time. Don't think we left our hotel room for hours. Just glued to the TV in disbelief. I was only 10 but I'll never forget seeing that second plane fly into the tower in real fukking time. It's the most surreal thing I've seen to this day. If I remember right the news presenters didn't even notice it at first :what: "Oh, is that an explosion in one of the towers?!?!" :gucci: What I also remember was how EVERYONE had America flags hanging out of their car windows that night.

Katrina - Similar story to above tbh. In the US and followed it live.

COVID shyt really hitting the fan - I remember following it on the news months earlier and being paranoid as fukk about it and everyone was telling me to chill.

MJ dying - was playing FIFA with my cousin and he told me. I didn't believe him.

Kobe dying - I hate Sunday nights so I was bored af and just browsing through twitter, saw he was trending and clicked out of curiosity since he was retired so why the fukk would he be trending, right? :mjcry:

The Queen dying will be one in the future too. Too recent to include it rn but living in the UK I doubt I'll forget that one.

The Paris terror attacks in 2015. I remember these well cause I just got out of hospital that night, got home and saw it unfolding on the news while I was still groggy as fukk from the anaesthetic. Didn't know if I was tripping or not.
London 7/7 attacks - I got my braces fitted that day and my teeth hurt like a motherfukker. It's strange the shyt you remember man :russ:

Obama winning is a good one too. Was at a concert that night and got home and followed the results on the news. I vividly remember his winning speech in Chicago.

Sandy Hook shooting and the Colorado cinema Batman movie one too. Don't know why I'm lumping these in together, they feel like they happened at the same time even though they were probably ages apart. Technically with the Colorado one it had already happened but I didn't know about it yet, first I found out was when I got home, sat down in front of the TV with my pizza and seen it on the news at 6pm.

Trump winning too but that's still kinda recent but I remember all of that evening well. I'm not even American and I remember being worried about the implications for the rest of us as well as just being sad that hate and bigotry was still so rampant in America to a damn presidential extent.

The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Easily rememberable because of the day it happened (26th December). I can't believe that was 18 years ago. Holy fukk :damn: On a similar note I remember the Japanese one too in I wanna say 2011? Was a Saturday morning (I think the Earthquake happened the day before, but shyt really hit the fan over the weekend) and TV shows were interrupted for news coverage, I just remember seeing fukking houses and cars sliding down the street. Nature is terrifying man :hubie:

I remember the Boston marathon bombing well. I followed the manhunt closely afterwards. Was listening to Police scanners and watching people live streaming SWAT teams in their backyards. Was crazy to follow live.

Lowkey I could swear I vaguely remember bits from the OKC bombing too even though I was only young.

Bin Laden's death. Just remember there was a press thing announced with Obama and people were speculating what it was. I had it on CNN and they were calling it but couldn't confirm. Then they switch to the White House and Obama walking along this red corridor looking like a badass :russ:

I got a couple more events I remember clearly…

- James Brown’s death
- LeftEye’s death
- Janet’s wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl (I just missed the actual moment because I went to grab a soda from the cooler :snoop:)
- the Anthrax scare
- Sandy Hook

What was it like for the brehs who remember when MJ was acquitted?

I remember the MJ acquittal clearly. That was a crazy stressful day just WATCHING it so I can’t imagine what it was like for him.

I watched it on the E channel with my mom. Word had come that the jury had reached a verdict and they had cameras following MJ’s limo to the court house. When he arrived there were already a BUNCH of fans waiting outside the court. When the limo door opened Michael emerged and, this is NOT a joke, he looked even paler than usual, he was wearing sunglasses but the fear and anxiety was visible from his expressions.

As the jury was reading out his not guilty verdicts they cut to outside and a white woman was releasing doves for every “Not Guilty” and fans were cheering and celebrating like their hometown had won the Superbowl. Then just as quickly as the hoopla began, Michael left the courthouse, got in his limo and sped off, it was over in like 20 mins but it felt like two hours.
