This is the first official thread for a series I'll call 'Best Rapper Alive'. Basically, in this thread (http://www.thecoli.com/threads/revi...list-how-can-we-make-it-more-accurate.465427/), I discussed Complex's article that covered this very issue.

I thought we'd do a Coli spin on things and vote for who we believe to be the rap MVP of each year. I will be going from 1985-2015 but the threads won't be made in ascending or descending order. Just random.

Basically, I will be listing contenders as poll options for MVP of any given year and y'all get one vote to vote for your MVP.

POINT SYSTEM
I will only reward the top 5 finishers of each poll.

1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 5 points
3rd place = 3 points
4th place = 2 points
5th place = 1 point

The reason the remaining 4 places matter is because when all is said and done, I'll be tallying up points to see who finishes in the top 10 ever. This is done to reward consistent top 5 placers in multiple years even if they never won the MVP for one given year.

CONTENDER PRE-REQUISITES
There's only one real pre-requisite. You must have a project released in that year (whether an album, mixtape, EP or similar). This matters more to me than it does to you guys since I'm making the poll options, but just so y'all know this is the angle I'm coming from. Snoop Dogg cannot be in contention for 1995 for example.

As for groups and duos, if there's a standout member I will put them for contention if I deem them worthy enough e.g. Andre 3000 for 1998 or Ice Cube for 1988.

As for number of contenders per thread, it will depend on the year. A year like 1994 will likely have 10-15 contenders (max poll option is 15), but for 1985 it could be 5-6 only.

If your desired contender for any year is not one of the poll options and you plan to vote for that person, please make it known in the thread so I can add a poll option. DO NOT complain about an artist missing if you don't have intentions to vote for him/her.

The list is merely preliminary and if you want to vote for someone not listed - just reply to the thread and ask. The list isn't exhaustive and meant to represent every rapper who had a great year any given year. The list is meant to be interactive. I have left spots open for people to be nominated.

-----------------------------------------------

Today we're looking at 1993

I thought I'd also make a new hashtag for y'all to follow, so you can keep up to date with every thread release. Let's go with #BRAColi.

Here are the results thus far (10/5/3/2/1 point system). If you see a name/name, it means they received equal amount of votes and are registered in the same rank spot.

Snoop Dogg got this.

Doggystyle was massive, and even that is underselling it. Not to mention, the quality is outstanding, I think it makes The Chronic look relatively amateurish by comparison.

Honourable mentions to Cube for continuing his early 90s rampage with the now g-funk inspired Lethal Injection. Also to Method Man for being the standout star for the greatest rap group to ever grace the genre. Buckshot and KRS did well to represent and further the progress of boom bap.

Great year for hip-hop.

and sorry to those I forgot

Voted Snoop Dogg but Kurupt should be on this list

as you can understand 93 was mad competitive and I've left some slots open in case people make requests

if Kurupt is requested for voting (i.e. must vote for him), he'll be added to the poll

but then again he must have released a project that year and I assume you want him for consideration off the strength off his features, which ain't enough actually.

96 probably gonna be one of the hardest years to vote on. You saving that one for last huh?

not dead last I've been doing a rotation of decades

so 90s today, 2000s tomorrow, 80s next day, 10s next day and back to 90s etc.

the 80s and 10s only have 5 and 6 years respectively that we're doing threads for

but the 90s and 2000s have 10

so I did it like low 90s (90-94), low 00s (2000-04), 80s, 10s, high 90s (95-99), high 00s (05-09), 80s, 10s and back to low 90s

in the high 90s group either 95 or 96 will be last

Torn on this 1, K-Rino released a classic in Stories Of The Black Book that year and was rhyming the best and had mad classic songs on that.

KRS was phenomenal on Return Of The Boom Bap, was so ill with that style and I still listen to that album all the time.

Scarface The World Is Yours is in contention for 1 of his best albums and he had his Geto Boys contributions which he competently killed

Deck killed the Wu album...

Pac released great songs on his album including 1 of the greatest Hip Hop songs to me in Keep Ya Head Up.
