May 2008 and the album in July 2008

Thrown in the El Dorado Tape (with the unreleased Untitled tracks) that dropped in December 08 and this was one of Nas' stronger years

fair enough I guess that gives him a stronger case than I thought otherwise

but still not enough for me imo

I voted for Lil Wayne. Tha Carter III is actually my least favorite Carter, it's aged like shyt though I haven't heard it in full in years. The best songs were on C3 Sessions tapes, but Wayne was still that nikka in '08 like nikkas were calling him the G.O.A.T. and shyt he was EVERYWHERE. There's still some songs on C3 I do enjoy but in my opinion when it dropped it was a let down and a downgrade from C1 and C2 and massively overhyped. Imagine C3 without the filler and songs like Cry Out (Amen), I Feel Like Dying, Pray to the Lord, etc.

'08 was about Wayne/T.I./Kanye, I don't really consider Ye's project hip hop. I'm going with Wayne.
I used to be a huge Nas stan when I was 6 , I remember seeing Hip Hop Is Dead on MTV Jams and was :dwillhuh::krs: and then Cant Forget About you:ahh: thankfully I grew up:heh:
You hating hard that shyt is wild corny. :heh:

Untitled wasn't a wack album, lyrically it's actually one of the best Nas albums and it made headlines in '08 due to the controversy surrounding the project. It was a symbolic release that discussed black America at the time of the Jena 6, economic recession, and the election of the first black President. I don't agree with all the shyt Nas was saying or doing at the time, some of the beats could have been better and the concepts more realized but there were some great musical moments on there. It was a very risky release for Nas putting out an album like that there were stores that wouldn't carry it. Also, Untitled was toned down the N*gger Tape was critically acclaimed.

Rapping wise TI was at his best this year IMO , his accent toned down a bit:mjpls: (I preferred that) . Wayne made some cool joints on Carter 3 but it was not better than Paper Trail and was somehwat underwhelming honestly .

T.I. best shyt was Trap Muzik...

I doubt that's how you or any of the others vote in the polls tho :jbhmm:

Otherwise Kanye would have lost 2004, Jay-Z would have lost 2001, Kendrick would have lost 2012.

Bruh, like who you like and I'll do the same. I have no idea why you wanna do this back n forth shyt with me but this is tiring to me

Whatever you say

I voted for Nas cause as an MC at that time, in 2008, he's who out of that list of options I felt was deserving of that vote. Now you can believe me when I say that or not believe, I really don't give a fukk. But I ain't bout to keep going back and forth with you. Agree to disagree and then move the fukk on

I never heard of this El Dorado mixtape!

Nas or someone on his team gave DJ Delz the b-sides or the original versions of the sessions of Untitled (and a couple of unreleased HHID tracks) like something foul, Fear of Mandingo, People's Court, the World, Livin it. Kinda got slept on when it dropped in the dead of Christmas/New Year's in conjunction with his NYC show (remember when he used to do a Christmas show in NYC from like 2006-2008?)

Believe what you want too, but I know how and why I voted for Nas. The thread is asking for MVP for best rapper alive in 2008

So I answered it accordingly

Really liked Untitled from Nas, think hey may win whole series in the end, been overall very consistent to me for the most part.

I thought it was average as shyt.

The N*gger MIXTAPE though? :banderas::banderas::banderas::banderas::banderas::banderas:

I never understood this sentiment. People always overrating the fukk out of the mixtape while downplaying the album's greatness. Listen to both of them today and there's not a chance you can say the tape > the album

These are all classic/great records:

Hero, Yall My nikkas, & America are pretty dope too
Better than Trilla yes but LAX and Paper Trail:patrice:

Nah brodie, nothing on LAX or Paper Trail touching those records I linked above (besides ironically the song w/ Nas on LAX). Untitled's production not only aged better than both, but if you listen again and pay attention to what he's saying you can't say the album isn't hauntingly good. I'll admit the sequencing could have been a lot better and the production is tame compared to the grander records being made in 08 but Untitled is still one of Nas' best works and IMO the best album from 08

Yeah these threads are a lil inconsistent, like are we voting for who had the best project(s) of the year, or who was the hottest, or who was just rapping the best or what?
