Yeah these threads are a lil inconsistent, like are we voting for who had the best album of the year, or who was the hottest, or who was just rapping the best or what?

everyone votes based on what THEY think the MVP constitutes...some have gone best album, some best lyricist of that year, some went off sales, some went off a mix of factors

each person will define MVP (placeholder term for best) differently

I never understood this sentiment. People always overrating the fukk out of the mixtape while downplaying the album's greatness. Listen to both of them today and there's not a chance you can say the tape > the album

I listened to both of them like 3 weeks ago.

But it's all personal opinion, breh.

I could say It Was Written>>>Illmatic.

It doesn't mean that I'm right. :manny:

Bruh, like who you like and I'll do the same. I have no idea why you wanna do this back n forth shyt with me but this is tiring to me

Whatever you say

I voted for Nas cause as an MC at that time, in 2008, he's who out of that list of options I felt was deserving of that vote. Now you can believe me when I say that or not believe, I really don't give a fukk. But I ain't bout to keep going back and forth with you. Agree to disagree and then move the fukk on
@A Tribe Called Quest ™ @Inspect Her Deck @Mr. Negative

You expose the holes in their arguments and nikkas get mad as fukk :mjlol:

Alright breh do you, I'll leave it be :russ:

Yeah I feel you and understand if people liked the tape more, but its just people always make it seem like the album was wack juice compared to the godly mixtape

He had the best albums in 2008 and put out two Triple Darkness albums, most underrated rapper

Triple Darkness first 2 of the series were ill, The Blood Doctrine was very dope too...

The Other Side had some crazy joints too...

I swear some of y'all nikkas don't follow directions. The thread asked for the best RAPPER, not ALBUM. I gave my answered who I thought was the best rapper given the options
It don't mean you gotta agree, but damn y'all nikkas be catching feelings when a nikka name someone y'all think shouldn't be mentioned

I don't know why y'all nikkas feel someway bout me saying Nas. I said Nas and nikkas caught feelings QUICK

Says a lot about y'all and the nikkas y'all voted for. Maybe deep down y'all wanted to say Nas but feared being viewed as an old head or a not 1 of the "cool kids" :francis:

I would think it would be the other way around.

Where people feel obligated to say Nas. I don't think Nas is whack, it's just during that year I wasn't listening to him. Lol

2008 was actually a pretty good year for underground traditional hip hop but it seems it got severely slept on too and not just vets like nas and cube

Roots, Elzhi, Q-Tip, Kidz in that Hall, the Cool Kids (and the start of the hipster blog rap with Wale, Wiz, Currensey etc), Johnson&Johnson, Black Milk, Murs and 9th, Jake One, Ill Bill, Large Pro, Khrysis, Pacewon, Killer Mike

Feels like in the mid-2000s as Hip Hop was transitioning into being found more digitally and online, a lot of rap fans slept or forgot where to look for stuff and this didnt really resolve itself until the 2010s. In that time people just saw the south and a couple of NY rappers in the spotlight and forgot there was plenty of places to find great Hip Hop

He hasn't made an argument to me tbh other than the one I criticised when I used the GZA example

kinda like a homer pick
If that's the case nikkas shouldn't vote at all. :francis:

But when Nas is involved beats, and overall album quality, impact, and dominance don't matter only lyrics do? :dwillhuh:

But nikkas will turn around and vote for Kanye in 2004? :dwillhuh:

It's hypocritical as fukk. I almost want Nas to be banned from these kinds of polls in certain years cuz I know how the coli does :mjpls: and he's my GOAT

@stomachlines

If you don't feel what I'm saying that's cool. I'm just saying y'all switching up the criteria in certain threads depending on who's in the poll.

Keep it 100 :yeshrug:
