The problem with the late 1990's was that the globalization finally developed and people started to focus on making money more. If 9/11 didn't happen we would be complaining about how the internet has destroyed human interaction. We didn't have that problem in the 1980's or 1990-1996

well 9/11 did happen and we're still complaining about how the internet destroyed human interaction. what does 9/11 have to do with that?

I feel connected to both...the 80s is my childhood and the 90s is my adolescence. I can't say that either one is really better simply because they both affected me in different ways maturity wise due to age.

So deductively, I'd have to say the 80s were better...simply due to the fact that there wasn't 1 sucky year in the 80s for music, fashion, entertainment etc...

The late 90s were asscheeks dating from about 97,98 and 99...the fashion trends began to suck, the music became over glossy, TV was ass, movies were getting cornier etc...but from 1990 til about 1996 things were great.

YEP. Man if you were born anywhere from 80-87, you probably seen and experienced shyt that you probably still don't want to deal with and flat out erased it from your memory. What I'm saying is the 80's was a camouflaged period of time. How many of y'all had or witnessed some fukked up childhoods but it was bandaged by that 1st generation nintendo, and some fukking awesome music, cartoon and tv shows???

The early to mid 90's as far as music, entertainment, and puberty was awesome too because I literally grew up around that time but it didn't have the same pop as the 80's did. I can't front though, some equally crazy shyt was going on during both of those time periods.

This current society don't even understand how to live without "hating" or whatever they call it today.

I remember growing up in the 80s, it was very hard to hate on shyt except it was very blatant/extreme and back then, it was very constructive and usually had a much more positive outcome.

It was so easy to enjoy entertainment in the 80s, we didn't even care too much about flaws/mistakes.

Now, everybody just does shyt for money, there isn't any genuineness in anything today except maybe "tech".

Everything is heavily critiqued today and not enjoyable or memorable.

The 80s had a kind of "magic atmosphere" that the late 90s, the 2000s and the current decade doesn't have despite all the tech we have today.

The 80s also had a sort of sophistication and class in our attitude and behavior, freedom of expression was also in abundance and wasn't forced.

I even enjoy a lot of the "B" movies from the 80s more than the so called top movies of today, it's really weird.
I hear you, I can watch so many action flicks from the 80s without difficulty, I feel because of all the remakes the standard is lower.

no one can make a fair assessment unless they were born mid 70's or before. i was born in early '86, and i hardly remember anything except being a huge macgyver and air wolf fan. 80s seemed like an experimentation period. the fashion was out there and the hair even more. right when the 90's came, it felt like it was becoming more simplistic while having more substance. as for music, im just glad i witnessed rap take off like it did. west coast g-funk to east coast rebirth. for me, the 90's died when pac left us :to::sadbron::wow::damn:

9/11 is the defining moment of late Generation Y and over shadows everything, even what I was talking about.

the dysfunction of human connection would've happened anyway. 9/11 has nothing to do with that. its a technological thing

I'm not saying that though. I'm saying 9/11 is the overwhelming cultural theme so we don't talk about the internet's impact as much as we should.

I remember when Pac died man...I was 12. I still can't get over it man. I remember seeing it on MTV news and just being shocked...like I couldn't even grasp it cause me and my sister and my cousin from St. Croix was bumpin that shyt heavy that same summer of 96.

When Biggie died...that shyt just made me sad as a MF.

Yep... if the oldest you were in the 80's was 5 years old... you really can't speak on shyt about the 80's besides sitting in the crib watching cartoons.

Yall sure that the 80s had no booty tho?

There was less race mixing in the 80s so there was more ass in the Black community before diluting ourselves to oblivion was cool..these days Black women need to get ass implants and thats a disgrace.
