More versatile? man the only thing steph had was better handles so he could shoot off the dribble. Ray allen with the bucks was a fukkin beast. Shoot from anywhere on the court. Drive, pass, shoot. Athletic, could dunk on you. He wasn't just some sg coming off screens and pick and rolls. Ray allen could take you off the dribble. and ray was nice on the defensive end. Please dont sleep on Jesus.
A couple of things:
Ray Allen was a really REALLY good player. He was very athletic, he was able to work off his jumper to get to the hoop. Yes he COULD dunk on you.. .but he didn't very often. A majority, a huge majority, in fact... of his offense was jump shots, and most of it was NOT off the dribble.
In comparison, far fewer of Curry's scoring opportunities (2's or 3's) are assisted. He's got the ball in his hands, he's asked to do the initiating, and he takes guys off the bounce and creates space. And yet their usage is about the same.
Nobody said he was just coming off screens, nobody said any of that. But Curry is better. He's the better more complete player, and it isn't just "handles" - everything about his offense is more versatile.. in fact, without the ability to "dunk on you" Curry still finishes at a higher percentage around the hoop.
Don't let nostalgia fool you, Ray Allen was good... but he was never great in the sense of say... somebody like grant hill who actually WAS great for a few seasons. Allen was really really good for a long time. There's a difference.
Nobody is sleeping on Jesus, and just so you know... I was actually around watching him when that nickname started... you just learned it was a spike lee reference in the last year or two... so pump your brakes, and go do some research.

Nobody said he was great. But he's a better defender, and is rated that way by just about every metric that exists. And he does it guarding a HARDER position to cover.
