Not sure how or why, but a thread about a large contribution to Black institutions somehow starts to pivot into bu bu bu but why can't celebrity X do a,b,c.LeBron James alone can't donate millions to black causes by himself. But he has friends who are all millionaires (fellow basketball players). They can pool their resources together and collectively they can do things that a single billionaire can. Ditto for Jay-Z, Puffy, etc. They just choose not to.
Another thing they can do is setup an investment fund (VC, hedge fund, etc.) where all of the clients are rappers/athletes. And collectively they can all grow their money together and be rich for the rest of their lives. So that when their NBA/NFL contract is up they don't have to move back to the projects.
Even if you don't agree with some of these ideas they have to do SOMETHING.
Bowie State, Clark Atlanta, Elizabeth City State ,Lincoln University ,Prarie View, Tougaloo, UMES, Virginia State, and WSSU are also on the list. Just not announced yet.
She gave 3 to 4 billion total to over 300 organizations and institutions recently.
Morgan State was just the first school to announce it.
She pulled a Rick JamesBreh, I thought I might’ve been tripping, hence why I posted it with the hope someone could explain it to me.
he probably did, but sending one kid to college doesn't make headlines as easliy as donating enough for that college to build new dorms and shyt like she just did.So what's stopping someone like Tristan Thompson from creating a 50,000 scholarship so a kid from the hood can have enough money to pay for a STEM degree?
It actually does. Especially if other NBA players do it as well. It's a domino affect. That kid will then return and give back to his community from the money he made in STEM.he probably did, but sending one kid to college doesn't make headlines as easliy as donating enough for that college to build new dorms and shyt like she just did.

BALTIMORE — Morgan State University received their largest donation in school history.
MSU, the state’s largest HBCU, announced the receipt of a $40 million gift from noted venture philanthropist and author, Mackenzie Scott on Tuesday.
The donation is the largest single private donation in Morgan’s history and the second largest gift to any public Maryland university.
MSU says the unrestricted funds will be used to support University efforts essential to student success as well as to advance research and enhance investments in other mission-focused priorities and initiatives.
The majority of the donation will be used to seed the newly established “Leading the World Endowment Fund,” the first unrestricted endowment in the University’s history.
The fund will be invested using the Morgan State University Foundation's asset allocation strategy with future interest leveraged to underpin ongoing University initiatives with a direct connection to Morgan’s strategic plan.
Scott’s multimillion-dollar donation doubles the endowment at Morgan, which MSU states establishes a more promising future supporting students and faculty, and improving academic programs for years to come.
“This monumental gift will change lives and shape futures. I thank Ms. Scott for her due diligence and acknowledgement of the substantive value Morgan offers to so many throughout this nation and around the world, and entrusting that we will ensure the enduring impact of her generosity is truly transformational for many years to come,” said President David Wilson. “Long considered as a gem in the crown of Baltimore City and the state of Maryland, Morgan’s dedication to improving the lives of the communities we serve is highly regarded. The receipt of this gift is clear evidence that the rest of the world is also taking notice in Morgan too.”
