Of course not. The details here just aren't that cut and dried.
If they wanted it. They should have cut the check immediately. According to him, there was an agreement for that and puff did not follow through.

shyt, if Big wanted it that bad he should have put something down on it. Everything is for sale until you take it off the market.

There's enough blame to go all around. BIG shouldn't have been making side agreements without Puff, Puff shouldn't have been himself so much, Smith should have kept it all the way business and never given his word on something he wasn't prepared to follow up on all the way through. If you want to be fully capitalist about it, BIG should never have given away the concept on the simple strength of expecting someone to simply follow through on their word, and drawn up agreements as necessary.

You and I can pitch the need for artistic-vs-business integrity back and forth all day long, we both know the score there. The reality is that humanity gets in the way of the theoretical.

He wasn't man enough to call Big and tell him that LL had an offer on the table and ask him to match cause he was in a bind

That is a snake move and the Coli giving him a pass for it is quite on brand

Yeah..
Saw this a couple days ago and that was my first thought..dudes not just hungry he's a snake, and he knows Big died knowing he was a snake.

nah , that’s not telling the whole story
If dude made the beats and biggie heard it and definitely wanted it on his album then him waiting for some type of advance and not receiving it in a timely fashion is understandable for him to move on and sell it to another

But that’s not what happened

biggie and Rashad had a conversation and biggie came up with the whole concept and idea for the track and told him the two samples he wanted him to use which he did and created the classic track

At the end of the day, that’s kind of grimy because the track wasn’t based off his(Rashad) idea

Nothing grimy about it, the producer created the actual product, it's his and he can do as he pleases, his mistake was doing any work when he was told the album was in concept status and there was no budget.

Like someone said (and I verified), $60,000 in 1994/95 is equivalent to $130,000. Nobody that’s struggling to survive is turning that down. While I do agree that he should’ve been up front with Big about it, all Big was gonna do was convince him to turn the extra money down.
