Liberals always conceded/got fascists into power because unlike communists/socialists, they pledged to uphold the existing economic class system and not to redistribute to the masses.
Then, after fascists got into power, they betray or co-opt liberals.
You see that replaying in the United States today. Example:
US Democrats still cut deals and desire a “strong Republican Party” despite that party being beholden to fascist elements since Ronald Reagan.

Of course the SDP isn't entirely blameless but that was a period in history where the communists inability to work across the aisle contributed to something pretty fukking bad. BUT, in general, you are correct, the tolerance of liberals has historically been the catalyst for fascist regimes to pop up. I mean, you can see it throughout the EU today, and you can see it here. If you don't eliminate that rhetoric with the arm of the state, which most EU countries attempt to do as they have hate speech laws, they continue to grow in power. The U.S. is one of the few countries that doesn't even regulate hate speech, and we are seeing a sharp rise in ring wing terror, domestic terror, and we can't even get bills passed to recognize this, let alone combat it. But I will say, if fascists succeed in this country, it's primarily the fault of the Republican party, although one could suggest that is what they want, or at least their constituents, just depends on who will take the mantle, Trump for example.

I know that pain, I could type an essay on it but as someone that identifies as SocDem for practicality in the U.S. I have encountered that far too much. I ended up just leaving some communities because of terminally online individuals. They really do embarrass the left, and it seems their rhetoric bleeds out into public channels that then use them as representatives of the left, when these people haven't picked up a single book related to their ideology and they for damn sure don't put any work in during election seasons. It's just a personality badge for a lot of those people, but they will never sway me an inch, I know reasonable communists and socialists, they are far above those people in every category, most notably practicality, problem is, they just sort of sit in the background while all the nonsense happens in the channels.I don't understand this POV because
