II dont know blacks support black entertainers. Seems this thread is talking about the black inferiority thought that only praises black involvement in white owned and operated media and that shyt is sad as hell.
why is this any different when black people wait for a new Michael Jackson album, terry McMillan book. or a new clothing line. we have very few moment in culture where we are spotlighted. all of this stem from cultural hunger

lmao at anyone caring what some alt right youtubers think, they're whole job is troll black people because their audience really wanna be black and envy black people

Secondly, nikkaz is pitiful with their reactions to this movie, I understand comic fans being excited, but anyone else need to kill that

Movie was alright, nothing great about it

B Jordan ain't that good of an actor to me, he was alright in creed too, I never saw what was so great about creed either

I never say Fruitvale station because I never felt a need to see a movie about a nikka gettiing shot by the police, I already know how its going to end

I'm happy Coogler is getting on and shining, but I feel like he was shining right now because the film industry is so trash it don't take much to look good

People are fascinated by blacks in real life lmao, so anybody thinking black anything won't sell or do numbers is funny to me

I was disappointed by the movie, not because of c00ning or the black militant being a bad guy, but the film was just pedestrian at best

none of the tech was cool, special effects were weak, I mean damn what did they spend the budget on, probably pocketed half of it and marked up the expenses

the token white guy wasn't even needed in the story, klaue wasn't needed in the story

vibrainium being the explanation for everything is just lazy writing

T'challa showing up in oakland with a spaceship lmao, wtf

The first ritual battle was pointless made the second one predictable you already knew he was going to lose lmao, because the trailers show him wearing black panther suit lmao

all the action scenes were in the trailer

Didn't get the james bond comparisons at all, final battle was trash, why didn't they hire wesley snipes to direct the action, man was practically begging to have something to do with the film lmao

I'm just happy for Coogler and Jordan. Fruitvale is a great movie, Creed was somehow a great Rocky movie in 2015 or whenever it came out, and now this.

Plus, black folks have cared about representation for years, and a lot of black nerds came up on BP, Luke Cage, Static as far as comics with mostly black main/secondary characters went...this movie was always going to get that type of reaction to some degree.

We (I'm assuming you mean as blacks) don't need to see it, but Asians obviously do...they obviously care which is why they are hyped and there is nothing wrong with that. Why is wishful thinking not justifiable? Explain your premise for that. When you apply to a job, despite the fact that you already have one, is wishful thinking in the affirmative that you will get the job not justifiable? At the end of the day this movie is for kids so I think the wishful thinking is justifiable. Kids will never stop dreaming and imagining and this is for them more than anything but it speaks volumes that so many adults are equally excited to see it. Who said it was rare? I don't recall saying that in my post. There were/are other movies...ok, that's fine...doesn't mean people can't want more or better. Just like when you apply to a job, no one (hopefully) says, "why are you looking for a new job? Just be happy what you have now- you've already got a job and you had two before this one..." There is always a chance to do more, do it better and reach more people. Ok, so we've had films before that 'could've, should've or would've' but thus far haven't...doesn't mean we just stop hoping or being wishful; just like with a job you should've, could've or would've gotten but didn't because of one thing or another. Roman J Israel Esq was a good representation and I was happy to see it. .

Most things outside of, oh, I don't know, going to see a movie require more effort and commitment than sitting in a theater for two hours, your analogy doesn't mean much or hold very much weight. Sorry, the sane of us know that socioeconomic revolution can't be built on the back of one solitary movie but that doesn't mean we can't find enjoyment or attain inspiration from it. Aspiration economics is a real thing in my view

Just because you might not see it in you lifetime, it doesn't means the effects of positive representation are negated.

I just find it crazy that so much negativity is being thrown at this one movie when in actuality there are so many other things you could be throwing your attention to and critiquing at this level.
Your Asian associates/friends care, but for what reasons? from what you said, it's to see Asians in a movie being released...also maybe it's being released by a major studio to North American audience

They don't care about the release to inspire, wishful think, aspire, and motivate because there are already other sources for that. In other words, they are keeping things in perspective by enjoying the movie and ensuring Chinatown and Koreantown, remain that way regardless if Crazy Rich Asians was released

I used the term rare because you are defending the hype behind BP via representation and success, which are two commodities that readily applicable, so it doesn't justify the hype. There's more to the hype that goes beyond Black folks being on screen and selling alot of tickets, which is the the grip that folks have about the movie

Again, living in the age of social media and the high speed innanet, if you want inspiration, aspiration, wishful thinking, and motivation, they're readily available. The difference is in the individual's interpretation.
The fact that the other readily available inspirational, aspirational, wishful thinking, and motivational examples, that are based in reality, didn't, haven't, and couldn't have the same effect that a fictional movie has, is the the grip that folks have about the movie
