This wouldn't make any sense, because to know that at 15-18 would be insane....and to think that a parent would go impose that onto a child is just as insane.

People do overlook that Prom,Homecoming,Winter Formal, Sadie Hawkins etc. all have a high social relevance and are milestones in adolescence.


It's a good chance that she just wasn't invited to any of that....cause she made sure to tell us she grew up around rich white people....not that she grew up privileged.

I see no issues with black kids celebrating prom for all the evils and wrong in society this isnt one to harp on, graduating from high school is an achievement one should rightfully be proud off, any step to help one attain a higher education or improve themselves is always worthy of applause

I know for a fact from a lot of my family being right from the Wire that they do two proms (junior and senior) and make big deals out of them because a lot of kids don’t graduate/get married/college etc

And to keep it real this was before social media era (2000s) when I was first told this and I’ve been told this many times so it’s not a made up thought at least in my world
