Yeah man. I worked hard to start pulling in that type of money. Changed careers, invested in real estate and index stocks.

Hope it triples in blessing for you bro

Yeah that is fine, but i could not deal with the shyt managers go through. If i am getting flak for something 99% it is my fault and if it is not, i can easily show why it is not. As a manager you are always getting shyt by middle to upper management because deadlines are not being met, even if it is not anything to do with them. Or getting stressed because somebody above them had unrealistic goals for the year given the resources and passing the blame to them for the failure. That isn't always going to happen though and as a manager you get to move up and can eventually get up to director and VP levels. You're not doing that relying on Certs.
Anyways, you don't want to get into management, that's completely fine. I was just saying that Certs limit you whereas a degree does not...obviously you have to put the work in but you'll get the benefit of the doubt with that degree. A lot of spots you're not even getting a call without a degree.
You stated more succinctly that I did. This is the main problem and it gets glossed over, especially as a black male trying to break through. The most important thing is to get your foot in the door and then you can impress. The barrier though is getting your foot in the door. HR won't even pass your shyt to the hiring manager if you don't at least have a degree.
While what you're saying is right...my suggetion is get the degree, then impress. Oh and co-op/internship is a must.
what are these degrees ya'll keep mentioning that you need to have?

It is way to much politics in management and i could not deal with it. I have much more flexibility where i am in terms of being an engineer.

the degree factor is so underrated.
And the benefit of the doubt is real, even as a black man.
If you have a compu sci, it degree, cybersecurity degree. Certs may not be necessary for you
All the higher ups do not prioritize certs.
Also we had a lot of folks who have certs but end up not knowing wtf they are talking about too.
Becareful about certs.
If you are going to get a get a cert, look into offensive security

These are the certs to aim for.
You will eat for the rest of your days with just an oscp
You got degree? What certs? How long you been in IT?I love stories like this. IT is one of the few industries where black folks can really flourish provided you put in the work.
Never imagined making 200k at 30
i have a B.S in computer science and M.B.A in MISwhat are these degrees ya'll keep mentioning that you need to have?
You're not moving up into management with CERTs. All Certs to is help you get your foot in the door for specialized shyt. You need the Cert and experience. With the degree you are already ahead. It shortens the amount of time you need to grind. You can leap frog the Cert cats. Would always encourage going for the degree. It provides a much higher ceiling and floor.
My cousin has a similar background and moved to the DMV.Yea as for me I might have to be open to the DMV area cause I have an MPA which deals with more policy, risk, compliance, regulatory, governance, and auditing in federal government and policy organizations.
Jobs look more plentiful in that region for me and it’s only 4 hours away
