I thought that was the whole point of creating your own anime convention :patrice:
And people at the convention will do things you don’t like so you just ignore them and enjoy what you do like.

I’ve been to multiple comic-con conventions.. Did I like everything I saw? No, but did I make it into a big deal? No.. I just ignored it and enjoyed what I did like.

It’s that simple.

So have I but i thought maybe creating an even more niche space would filter out a lot of the things those people don’t like.

I hope they keep the Freaknik shyt out of it going forward because that’s what made this collective doing it so cool. The Freaknik shyt is overdone

Reign it back in on anime and video games centering

With that being said they wild out at combo breaker every year and at another tournament there was an Asian girl twerking in a xiaoyu costume in the Philippines

Please stop putting twerking on everything like hot sauce
Maybe a dress code - only Cosplay costumes allowed

:mjpls:

Too late. We saw what happened with Turkey Leg Hut and other spots

You tell people to chill on the Freaknik shyt they then do it out of spite

If I was Mark I’d never play anything with 808’s in that bytch. Jazz music and Acid-jazz/house only. Just put the Persona and Gundam Thunderbolt OST’s on loop

How can you do that unless you vet every single person that’s going and only allow certain admission? Lol

Once you put that ad out and allow those tickets to sell to anyone who’s interested, you have no say so over who comes to those shows.

So if you go to a kickback and its a vibe, then a group a nikkas come in and start acting out, fighting, causing trouble, you can’t complain?

thats all they doing, is venting. Ultimately you gotta enjoy your time away from them but its still worth pointing out.

To me it sounds like he trying to be a sell out. i've been to plenty of places where the restaurant has a club atmosphere and they make plenty of money.
He just don't want certain types of people in his establishment. Selling food doesn't mean you get to teach people how to behave.

While I agree with the core of what you said, the bolded ain't true.

They were smoking weed inside his upscale restaurant. That is ridiculous and blatantly disrespectful.

How is this any different from people twerking and getting naked at Turkey Leg Hut?

You make it seem as if these people don't know any better or this behavior is instinctual to certain black people.

I posit to you that they in fact DO know better and wouldn't act like that in a white space. In fact, there's a strong possibility that they are doing it as a form passive aggressive hating.

Trying to bring your business down to "their level".

Im not gonna front though, toonami def made anime far more accessible. Especially for younger millennial.

my bro and my friends used to treat anime like it was a ”treat” it was so rare to catch good anime on american tv. we also had to deal with horrible dubs in the 90s

That video, those tweets, and this thread is a classic display of repeated generalizations and respectability politics because mfs are just assuming they’re not black nerds who joined a black organization that attended a black nerd convention in black nerd cosplays
Strolling/hopping is more of an issue when they're in people's way and pushing/being hostile. They are in the corner by themselves not bothering nobody and here comes the uncle ruckus azz nikkas hating from a distance and talking about “there’s a time and place” which none of them own nor entitled too and it looks like this was a scheduled meetup. Black people/anime fans are not a monolith until it’s something that I don’t like/minor inconvenience to me lmao. c00n chips are fully activated :mjlol:

Before Toonami the only way I could peep anime is if one of the homies mom's would rent something from the video store
