Black people...search your feelings. Do we think reparations can be effectively fought for in 2020?

I find it interesting that it's even being brought up by national candidates, but what would reparations even look like at this point? A single payout, plots on federal lands, tax breaks? Without specifics this is just lip service/pandering, it's early in the campaign so we should reserve judgment until Warren/Harris put together their platform.
This is actually the better question/discussion. If reparations were to happen, what is the most effective way to distribute them and who qualifies? Do bi-racial people qualify? How will ancestry be classified and how many generations? Do black islanders and Africans qualify?

These are issues within themselves that complicate the idea.

what are the policy fault lines?
it wont be all policy driven, but those who want more "democratic socialism" vs a moderate party that wants to promote "responsible" capitalism and social liberties vs a conservative party that continues to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few, which are mainly white people, and their disenfranchised lackeys who latch on due to race and their satisfaction that at least the white man is staying ahead

It could be if it’s framed that way.

Not sure why semantics are such a big deal.

People need help, don’t matter what the fukk you call it
the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged.

nah fam
it cant be framed that way

its a stimulus check

H.R. 40. Should be passed to answer all of these questions.

But using Occam's razor a bit, the first criteria is that you have FBA ancestry in order to qualify.

That could potentially exclude a lot of people based solely on a lack of records or are you saying utilize DNA to establish the qualification similar to the Native American tribes?

Amends are 400 years overdue. And money isn’t the way to make amends.

To me it’s actually insulting to say you’ll give me some money to amend for 400 years of atrocities.

What’s important to me is black people being able to live and prosper in America.

It'd have to be something that can be spun as a net benefit for the economy, like Trump did trying to sale his 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut. Outside of some form of tax rebate, I have no idea what that would.

From a practical standpoint I have serious reservations about the feasibility of a reparations program since any instance of fraud (i.e. money going to unqualified recipients) will kill the program immediately and Federal Programs are completely susceptible to fraud.

The vast majority of black people in America are FBA. So any massive exclusion would be suspect and called out immediately. It could be records and DNA. I don't know the best way. But I know there is a way.

No.

Money is not what we don’t have.

And no, “every other group” has not gotten money.

All black people get checks tomorrow, and not much would change.

An adjustable standard tax deduction over the course of 5-10 years, where the deduction starts at the max year one and decreases by a percentage the following years until zero. Or a probate amnesty program on maternal and paternal held property despite balances owed or due being transferred to the eldest child then through siblings, children and grandchildren for 3-5 generations to aid in closing the wealth gap in the black community. If black folks who traditionally had no means to acquire assets to prop and grow their families were given an amnesty for multiple generations to pass assets without penalty of forfeiture or taxation, the community could start amassing some of the wealth we were potentially robbed of.

Wealth=/=income.

Wealth is created by policy not cash.

Which is why I said policy should be the focus. Not money.

No. You have a very pedestrian understanding of history, and the point you are trying to make.
