Kobe is OJ to white people.
There’s no logic to put him down so low then rank Steph over him. Or Wilt.

Ive always wondered what it is about Kobe that creates such variance where people have him ranked.
I've seen him anywhere from top 15 to 1
And I don't even mean the trolls but like the older media guys too
maybe the people around you weren't fans.
he was on video game covers, magazine covers, tv shows, red carpets..what are we even talking about? acting like Kobe was hated is absurd and revionist history. only people that hated him were in philadelphia. some thought he was corny but hated? he had every endorsement deal. he was probably the most loved basketball player prior to Colorado. after colorado is when he got the black community tbh
Kobe is ranked where he's always been ranked. He was generally a fringe 8-18 type guy, depending on how far you go back into history and how you view Kobe.
The real criticism should be the way they're trying to get rid of Wilt, Oscar, Dr J and I dont see Elgin.
Didn't read past 20. Im curious to see how they do Isaiah & Iverson.
It started when the Jordan/LeBron debates began to heat up, and Jordan tried to use Kobe as a shield. Jordan of course didn't expect Kobe to pass away a few years later, and it's beginning to backfire. Now people who didn't even watch Kobe are trying to come up with arguments for him being the goat.
Before all of this, the biggest debate Kobe had was Kobe/ Duncan, with Duncan winning any debate outside of LA. And Duncan wasn't even really considered top 10.
Kobe was the ultimate corporate chosen one. He already had most of these placements, along with all-star nods long before he achieved anything on the court.
Add to his arrogance, the way he came into the league forcing his way to a contender, his cooonish ways(which have been swept under the rug after he died) and selfish play.
And he himself has stated that he had branding issues for a good decade. I don't know why y'all waste so much time trying to deny it. Lol. It got to the point where he went hard claiming philly when he's from lower merion.
It seems like he's being treated like Dream generally is. He gets credit for the 09-10 titles and the individual accolades, but the other 3 titles are treated like KD's titles in Golden St (and the reason Steph is still ahead of KD is Steph won without KD twice). Kobe during the Shaq/Kobe years was definitely a problem, but Shaq's sheer force on the court and his personality had him viewed as the alpha in real time (whether the current public agrees or not). And during those days, people still focused on locking down Shaq. AI didn't have the benefit of an all-world presence on the court next to him to take away defensive attention and let him operate. We heard T-Mac saying he never played with a guy like Shaq (and while Yao Ming was good, he's nowhere in all-time lists). That's why the Lakers (and Kobe) struggled so much against the Pistons in 04. The Pistons avoided doubling Shaq as much as they could and had the players who could (attempt to) single-cover Shaq legitimately.how in the blue hell is Kobe #11. ?!?!?
ever since Kobe passed a lot of people been sh1tting on his accomplishments and legacy
imo Kobe is #2 behind Jordan, and this is coming from Knicks fan
.“Branding issues “ = he’s hated?
Nothing you said disputed what I said and the fact that you called him a c00n shows me you’re one of them. Stop acting like you’re unbiased and aren’t one of those people who despised him his entire career. Like I said, haters like you were in the minority.
I mean its hard to deny that is partly true. Would former players like Gilbert Arenas and Tracy McGrady have made the statements about Kobe recently if he were alive? It’s sad how Kobe stans have weaponized his death to use as a defense for his (perceived) low ranking in all time basketball.
Rather than consider that with time, any athlete will be viewed through a different lens, since with time comes perspective and context, they insist that everyone is just coming out of the woodwork to slander a man who can no longer defend himself. As if Kobe would be challenging Bleacher Report’s opinion if he were alive.
It puts you in awe at how thick the bubbles people live in really are.
People became Kobe fans around '03-'04, because he ended up showing that he was THAT good, and THAT much better than his peers...with an extra gear that almost rivals MJ. I think what really sealed it were the shots over the Self-Proclaimed Kobe-Stopper....when was that, end of that '03-'04 season. After that game, there was really nothing else you could say. Then he continued to do so.I wonder when people became Kobe fans, because I was a fan early on and people hated Kobe. Even Lakers fans were split on Kobe and the popular quote 'pass the ball Kobe' was a real thing. It wasn't until 2005-2006 season, when people started coming around on him and as the 'Kobe guy' I finally started to hear people say I was right about Kobe.
Later on in his career he became this mythical ball player, but it's not surprising as someone who was on this ride his whole career that some people have him rated lower.
.
I mean, he's done cooon stuff, even post-retirement that his PR tried to sweep under the rug. Would you prefer if I used a different word? Lol.
Hesceven acknowledged his branding issues himself. They've had trouble selling his sneakers, etc.
You want it to be different because you're a fanatic, but it is what it is
Wtf do yall be saying? The way you guys just get up on here and lie to disrespect Kobe is just insane. Now he was not in any of the top 3 conversations and his biggest debate was Kobe/Duncan?Kobe is ranked where he's always been ranked. He was generally a fringe 8-18 type guy, depending on how far you go back into history and how you view Kobe.

Yeah you deserve multiple kicks in yo ass talkin bout Magic is overratedMagic is overrated and Kobe is underrated, it balances out for laker fans.
Scrolling through the muck and mire, I don’t think it’s the list that gets everyone riled up, it’s the responses to the list and the mindset of posters who proclaim to know the game. Everyone doesn’t have to be polar opposites, but that’s what happens here, everything is agenda driven and trolling. That’s why we’ve argued the same points since AHH and SOHH to no avail. It’s just that there’s more idiot posters than years ago.I don’t get how yall still get riled up over these lists. It’s people’s opinions, it’s not like this will become official NBA canon
And most times whether NBA, NFL, music, movies, whatever the shyt is pure rage bait bc ppl are guaranteed to get triggered when their favorites are ranked as highly as they think they should be
No one ever said "Kobe and Shaq" back thenIt seems like he's being treated like Dream generally is. He gets credit for the 09-10 titles and the individual accolades, but the other 3 titles are treated like KD's titles in Golden St (and the reason Steph is still ahead of KD is Steph won without KD twice). The other knock on Kobe (and this one is legitimate) is he never won without Phil. In the midst of Kobe/Duncan stan arguments, one key argument is that Duncan had team continuity on his side and always had Pop. Thing is, Pop was nothing before Tim Duncan came into the picture. Pop also never won a title after Duncan retired. Meanwhile, Phil won titles before the Lakers. The Shaq/Kobe Lakers failed before Phil. Phil arrives and they win 3 titles. He leaves and Kobe wins nothing until Phil returned. It is what it is.
Finally, people in here talking about the Klutch stimulus package for Bron's ranking. The top 10 includes 5 Lakers and 2 Celtics. The only non-storied franchise reps in this top 10 are Jordan, Duncan and Steph. If Steph was doing what he was doing in LA, if Jokic was doing what he's doing in Boston or LA, they'd already be knocking on the door of the top 10 or squarely in it. While Kobe has the Klutch factor working against him, it's balanced by the Laker factor that helped build him up.
