One undeniable classic track does not make a classic. Cherry pick any classic album. Any one. And look at its track list and count how many dope ass, timeless tracks are on there as opposed to average/bad ones. They all have predominantly great tracks. BP3 has a bad ratio of great to average/bad tracks. It's a very average album. You can't just catapult it to timeless classic because it had Empire State of Mind and POSSIBLY started trends. Be objective breh.

As I've mentioned in this thread, I'm calling it a classic off it's impact and accolades rather than the music. I personally don't think it's a top 5 Jigga album, but no other album of his elevated himself or brought anything to the game like BP3. Only albums that come close in that area are BP1 and TBA. Sure you have great albums that are always praised on here like like Below The Heavens or Food & Liquor, but what did they bring to hip hop? It's classic in the sense that it will be remembered for it's accomplishments on a cultural scale.

Yes BP3 made history by winning the most grammy's for a rap album (6). Yes ESOM is a Classic song and will be remembered forever. But this album is far from Classic. 3.5 MICS at best. It's the worst in the BP series, even BP2 is better and a lot of people felt that album was weak. Jay was coasting lyrically on BP3, the production was all over the place. Yes there's hot songs but there's also some terrible songs like "Hate" that Ye and Jay should be ashamed of themselves. BP3 is one of Jay's weakest albums despite it's success. Post-Retirement, it's the weakest album. American Gangster put it to shame and yes I even liked "Kingdom Come" better.

Right. A classic is a classic mainly because of the music on it. I do believe an albums impact is a factor but the music must always have precedence. BP3 had some dope songs, but it also had alot of bad/average songs.

:beli: So now we're basing classics on an albums impact alone, huh? fukk the music, right? You're just being ridiculous :heh:

Yea man, cause we all know that Jay-Z stans stay out of Nas, Wayne and Em threads :stopitslime:

I didn't say that. You're actually right. I just wonder why people who don't like certain rappers just don't mention said rappers. Then we can all get to discussing "just the music" as so many people clamor for. :blessed:

NAh not rlly...Impact means more..think about it...Im gonna personify this by saying Pac is a classic figure in hip hop due to his impact

See how that works....it was his impact on people and on hip hop that makes him a classic figure in hip hop

TBA was Jay Z's most impactful album and therefore is a classic album for the impact it had on hip hop and a large amount of ppl...almost everybody remembers TBA and sees it not only as a classic album but as a classic time period

BP3 can be considered classic in the same vein..BP3 had a very large impact on hip hop and on Jay's career when u compare it to his previous works post-retirement(KC, AG)...Ya sure we maycall AG classic on here but for the most part BP3 will be remembered moreso than those 2 as classic because of the impact of the album.

SO nah he aint rlly being ridiculous...in fact..he's being a bit more objective than u which is the ironic part:wow:

What would you be more incline to call a classic, BP3 or AG?

American Gangster. Dope tracks, top to bottom. Jay was spitting and the beats were great. It only had one conspicuously bad track (Hello Brooklyn). It also made some noise because it sold well and brought Jay back to the drug raps he made his name with. AG is a much, much better album than BP3. Shouldn't even be a debate. I personally don't think it's a classic but I don't argue with anyone who does.

BP3 is not a classic at all. But its a very great album. The good songs were absolutely great. (thank you, what we talkin bout, already home, doa, real as it gets, so ambitious, esom, run this town, star is born ect) but the bad songs were very mediocre (reminder, off that, on to the next one, young forever )

Hate is a funny song, not supposed to be taken seriously. so i kinda like it. :stylin:

"how much they hate it? very "

AG was his lowest-selling CD with no top 40 hits and some called it a watered down RD.

BP3 was a beast commercially and won him his most grammies.

Which, do you think, he'd be more inclined to replicate?

What does which album he would care more to replicate have to do with an album being a classic? Ok, it sold better and got him grammies. So what? Still don't make the album better. And AG sold well for what it was. Never said it was a commercial blockbuster. At the end of the day AG >>>> BP3. Much better album.

Yes BP3 made history by winning the most grammy's for a rap album (6). Yes he broke Elvis Record with this album. Yes ESOM is a Classic song and will be remembered forever. Yes all of us old head love how Jay smacked up this generation with "D.O.A." But this album is far from Classic. 3.5 MICS at best.
