Michigan fired Carr after going 9-4, a year removed from 11-2. A coach with a ring and multiple league titles.

And look at where they are now......they didn't even win 6 games this season :heh:

Firing a successful coach usually doesn't end well unless you have someone immediately waiting in the wings. Nebraska, to my knowledge, doesn't have have one and with other, better, coach jobs this year their future is very uncertain right now.

i know that black people only make up 12% or 13% of the population

but would you rather go to a school that is 5% black with urban areas in certain proximity or go to a school that is 2% black that is in bumblefukk county?

maybe i'm spoiled because i attended UAB but i can't imagine being surrounded by cacs all the time
most college towns are like that.

I think you are spoiled.

These "experts" always talking about how their parents being able to see them play being a big factor...

The chances of a Nebraska game being shown in Texas,Lousiana,Florida? :manny:

But the truth is..Nebraska doesn't have much to offer nowadays...
when did it ever have "much" to offer?

it does IF you pick the right leadership. Miami went from Schnelly to Johnson to Erickson to Butch to Coker and still EXPECTED to contend for national titles. Jimbo Fisher was on the hot seat just two years ago. Ohio State stayed atop their conference for a decade and still got rid of their coach.

Just because today's results aren't what you want them to be doesn't mean that's what you're supposed to settle for.

:manny: not sure where this discussion is going. First you ask what other schools would fire a coach winning 9 games. Then you change it to say they shouldn't have done that. Hindsight is 20/20. If UM could do it again, they still would fire Carr, just not pick Rodriguez.

finished reading through the thread, and the disrespect for nebraska's football program is smh worthy...they are still a top place for football (resources, history, name brand, etc.), all they need is a coaching staff that has the support of everyone there and they need to win a 'big' game...pelini is a good coach, but he didnt have the support from the university nor fans, and he didnt win a 'big' game....the fact he was winning 9 games despite all that shows nebraska still can attract talent...if they couldnt, he wouldnt have won 9 games a year....change the coaching staff, and they'll do better....

without looking up i can tell you that Ann Arbor, Columbus, Madison and those southern college towns have a bigger black population than Lincoln

but i guess Nebraska has no competitive disadvantage because today's elite prospects grew up idolizing Tom Osborne :troll:

Let me summarize my points in this discussion:

  • 9 &10 win seasons with a .700 winning percentage are not deserving of getting fired IMO
  • Nebraska is not what it used to be, does that mean they shouldn't want to win championships? No, but they should stiffen their expectations just a bit
  • Firing a pretty successful coach sends a message of extremely high expectations for any potential future head coaches
  • Firing a successful coach without any foreseeable successor usually does not end well (I.E Michigan and the Vols)
  • Michigan and UF, who are both better jobs, all have openings this year. Nebraska will more than likely be getting their scraps.
  • Combined with the previous aforementioned elements this firing will not end well for Nebraska IMO

You think young black athletes are mostly swayed by the demographics of the city? There's nothing intriguing about cities in Alabama or Louisiana or cities like Tallahassee or Gainesville. They want to go where they can win.

Everywhere...You never there.
67-27 is great. He has a .712 win percentage. Hell, Bo Pellini has more wins in his first seven seasons than Tom Osborne had in his first seven. Besides Nick Saban he's the only other active FBS coach to record nine or more wins the past six seasons. I think Nebraska made a decision that they're going to seriously regret in the future. He's definitely going to be able to get a job somewhere else though. Nebraska needs to realize that it's not the same powerhouse that it used to be, players aren't dying to go to to Lincoln. Their weak conference certainly isn't helping either.

You can't tell NEBRASKA that it's a relative wrap as far as national prominence is concerned. Pelini was/is gonna be another Dabo/Richt ... gotta Bush that nicca man. Looks good on paper, and I'm not taking away from his wins, but still... Nebraska has to try... You're right they might regret it. the next 3-5 years is really gonna let Nebraska know what their ceiling is post Osborne. the CFB coaching carousel is a cold game, but he knows that. He'll get another gig with excellent pay. If SC doesn't get Muschamp, Gamecocks might court him. After all, he got that work from 'em in 2012 in the Cap1 Bowl... :mjpls:

hell yeah factors like demographics and weather play a significant role when recruiting elite talent

i don't understand why you and @mastermind won't admit that Nebraska has a competitive disadvantage
